Good to know that Method doesn't irritate - how strong is the smell?
Waitrose has just confirmed that they no longer do their sensitive liquid which both daughter and I buy. So now looking for a senisitve wash which doesn't have a perfume or soapy smell. Haven't found one yet.

Added: Strewth - just seen how expensive it is.

It does have a perfume, we use the Peony one, but it isn’t strong. The bottle is quite large and it says it does 39 washes. My daughter tried all sorts of supposedly gentle ones, but everything irritated Esme. She settled on some type of soap flakes which she used for Esme’s clothes. The trouble is that any type of powder dissolves in the washer, but then it comes out of solution in the back of the machine , that goes mouldy and the machine smells.
When they moved in with us, that happened to my machine . As I use Method kitchen spray, I decided to try the washing liquid and thankfully it worked for Esme, so I use it for all the washing now. I can’t get it in the local supermarkets, so have to get it on line. It used to be six pounds something two years ago, but the price has shot up recently on Amazon. That is why I was so pleased to find it for £7 in Dunelm.

Names, Boots do a sensitive, non perfume one. Have you seen that?

£4.80 for 16 washes though!

nameslessone Report 20 Jun 2023 13:21

Thanks to both. I don’t use powder in this house as I don’t have access to the drain. Once nearly missed a ferry as I had to unclog the outside drain full of powder residue.

I’ve seen mention of the Boots one and mean to have a look when I am in the area. Mind you, I.can’t work out where it would be in the shop, so must make sure I’ve got plenty of time.

I was amazed looking at reviews for various products that some people complained that certain of the perfumed ones weren’t strong enough. I wouldn’t mind if my bedding smelt of, say, lavender, but this grey haired lady doesn’t want to go out smelling of lavender.

Florence61 Report 20 Jun 2023 13:40

I stopped using powder years ago as not only did it clog the drain but the dispenser box and underneath it was awful and difficult to clean.

I only use liquid detergent plus Calgon every other wash, its expensive but helps to keep the drain pipes clear. When I remove the dispenser tray, there is very little underneath to clean. My machine is 6 years old now and so far not had any problems with it.

I imagine where all the cleaning products are names and the washing up liquid etc. Is a huge Boots? Ours is tiny. Our Superdrug is much bigger so I do check their cleaning products for offers too.

I use Aldi's Almat non-bio liquid, which doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.

It washes well, and has a light pleasant perfume, which doesn't linger. My clothes don't smell of it after they've been washed.

At the moment, online (for click & collect, which not all branches offer) it's £2.79 for a 1.5 litre bottle. (42 washes)

But I think it's £2.99 in the shop.

Thanks for all the advice. I think the road I would use tomorrow if I went to Aldi is shut, so a walk across the supermarket carpark to the Boots shop will have to do instead.

It is not very big and I have n3ver looked in Boots for cleaning products so it will be an adventure (Bring back Timothy Whites). If I can’t see it then will have to wait for cooler weather so I can face the big town.

Florence61 Report 20 Jun 2023 18:20

Timothy Whites, that's a blast from the past. We had one in my old town and was brilliant, my mum always bought stuff in there.

We really do miss those big old shops that had many departments where you get just about anything and everything :-(

I remember their stores, but didn't realise the strong link to Portsmouth.

Several stores pictured here.....

Congratulations Florence, that is a lot of chatting

Grr, I am cross. The washing liquid I ordered was supposed to be delivered today at between 11.26 and 12.26.
At 11.27 I got an email from DHL to say that they had tried to deliver it and it had been refused. When I looked at the satellite photo, they had tried to deliver it to a house a good half mile from here. There is no way to contact DHL even using the shipment number, it just tells you to contact the sender. Eventually after going through the robot chat, I managed to type to a real person at Dunelm. All she can do is to send an email to DHL and it coukd take up to 72 hours to get a reply from them
:-( :-(

Florence61 Report 21 Jun 2023 13:14

Oh no Linda, that is so annoying. But if they had the house number and street, then how did they go elsewhere?

Yes Linda 100 pages, that's some chatting but there are other threads here that have hundreds of pages, mega chatting lol

I ordered 2 bags of 60l compost on the 10 June from Amazon. Was given the 18th Jun as a delivery date. Kept checking but no updates just a new delivery date.

yesterday I chatted with a "bot" who assured me it was just running late. I had a Yodel tracking number so went on their site and found that yesterday, it had left the seller and was now at a Yodel Depot, east delivery 23 Jun.

So for the last 10 days, the compost was still with the seller until Amazon messaged them and now its on its way. Just so annoying as been waiting to tf some smaller plants into a bigger pot and no compost left!

The weather has turned too as cooler and windier with gales forecast next weekend eeek....

Just finished a mountain of ironing including daughters bedding but left my own duvet set as I was to hot & bothered to it so another day will do.

After clearing the filing cabinet, I now have a huge basket of shredding to do! At least i can see the fruits of my labour.

That is a beautiful photo Florence.

I am just enjoying some quiet time before Esme returns and I have to play.
Her mum has to go to her new office in London once a fortnight at the moment, so she catches the train at 6.30 am and gets back about 9.30pm. It is a long day, but better than staying overnight. OH took Eve to school, then he has taken the car because he is walking with the Ramblers today
Esme had a podiatry appointment at the doctors at 9am, her daddy has taken her. Normally he would then take her straight to school, but he has an important on line meeting at 10.15, so they are coming back here. He will then take her to school after the meeting has finished. It is an hours round trip, so he can’t do it before the meeting

The good news for us is that finally they are going to exchange contracts on their London house at the end of the week, completion will be a couple of weeks after that. Now all they need to do is persuade the couple who own the house they are going to buy to move out. They are American and are going back to the States. Originally they said they could move from mid July, but now they are saying September would suit them better. That doesn’t suit my daughter, so they are trying to get them to compromise on mid August. So there is light at the end of the tunnel and we will have our house back. What could possibly go wrong??

Florence61

Florence61 Report 22 Jun 2023 10:12

Linda, once completion is done, the owners cant stay there anymore so your daughter can move in anytime after completion? How can the owners stay there after everything exhanged etc? I wish them well and hope it all goes through this time.

Well we have a viewing booked on mums flat 24 Jun at 1pm. Spooky thing is that was mums birthday so maybe a good sign hopefully, it will be sold this week as that would be the icing on the cake.

I have just finished tidying the kitchen and now need to vacuum the lounge.

No plan for the rest of the day but daughter suggested we make some cards and increase the stock which seems like a good idea.

At least I know the compost is en route so that will keep us busy once that arrives.

Joan, hope all's well with you and hubby. I expect you have been busy outside.

Anyone else looking in, have a good day :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Jun 2023 11:41

There are two transactions Florence, one for exchange and completion of the London house, then a separate set of transactions for the house they are buying up here. Although it is normal in a chain for all the completions to happen on the same day and everyone gets their keys as the solicitors pass the money along the chain, that isn’t happening in this case. They were gazumped on the house they were buying up here, so that fell through and they had to find another one to buy. As it happened it didn’t matter because they are living with us. So they will have the money from the London house before the legal things for the house up here are ready. That should be in the first couple of weeks in July, but they need the owners to agree a date with them.

After playing schools with Esme, I am pleased to say that she is on her way to school, so all is quiet here. After lunch I need to walk into the town square to get some chicken for the stir fry I am going to make tonight. It is hit, but there is a breeze so it won’t be too bad.

Florence61

Florence61 Report 22 Jun 2023 13:46

Ah I understand that better now Linda. Fingers crossed for your daughter, all goes through. I'm sure you will miss them all but appreciate your own space when they have gone.

I'm making chicken with savoury rice tonight and some naan bread. Its very quick and easy and very tasty.

It is warm & sunny here but also thankfully a breeze so no midges today.

Just typed a very long letter to my cousin in Australia 1700 words long! So need me coffee now and to stretch me legs after sitting for ages.

Florence61 Report 23 Jun 2023 12:12

Good afternoon all
Well it's arrived...... gales and pouring rain!

Bit of a shock to the system after 3 months of no rain and a month of sunny warm weather. Could say we are back to the usual lol

I had to move my little flower pots into some shelter as they were getting bashed but the rain is giving everything else a good watering with much heavier rain forecast later on. That will do the grass a lot of good as its so brown.

So very much an indoor day today. I may have a sort through my wardrobe and see what can go to the charity shop. A small bit of ironing to do as well.

Daughter popped over to town and coming back at 2.30pm no doubt with more than the 3 things I asked for :-D :-D :-D

Think down south it's very hot?

Hope everyone well today
