It was announced late last week that over-90s and Indigenous people over 65 could phone beginning last Monday (8th) to book appointments beginning next Monday (15th).

Over 85s could begin phoning next Monday for appointments beginning 22nd March

Over 80s could phone beginning Monday 22nd for appointments beginning 29th March.

Sooo ............

some chaos in phone call centre on Monday in our health region, other 4 regions in the province worked well. Monday problems solved by Tuesday.

People were getting appointments almost immediately ..............


New announcement on Tuesday evening .................. over-85s could begin phoning yesterday (Wednesday) instead of next Monday.

We might be able to get our phone-in date advanced as well

Wouldn't that be super?!!!!!

Then they're talking 4 months before the second dose.


The province is not giving the AstroZeneca to over -65s ............. reserving it instead for vaccinating people working in essential industries but not yet had vaccination, eg farm workers, food production workers who can't spatially distance, etc.

I talk to my sister ,who lives in Chilliwack BC , every Sunday afternoon via messenger

She has told me several times there was no date at all for her getting the jab ,she is 71

Last Sunday though she said she has finally been asked to register and it’s likely she may get it in April but no specific date as yet

They're slowly doing the jabs here in Ontario, depending on where you live and age etc. Right now they've just said anyone born 1957 to 1961 can have the Oxford jab no matter what their job is as they're not giving anyone over 65 the Oxford one. Trouble is I think they only have 100,000 of the Oxford ones right now and approx a million people in the age group....

if the over 80s were due to start having the jab on March 29, then, yes, your sister is right, some time in April.

It partly depends on how many there are in each age group.

I have heard one of the Public Health people say that it will go in 5 year age groups ......... but that will obviously change as the numbers in an age group increases.

If they do work in 5 year groups, then the next one would be over 75 to phone in beginning March 29 for appointments beginning Tuesday April 6 ............. isn't April 2nd Good Friday? Then the following Monday is also a holiday here.

That would mean over-70s phone-in begins April 6.

BUT it also depends on number in each city/place/area and how fast they work.

She might be lucky and get it sooner ........ especially as we are supposed to be getting 1 million Pfizer doses a week soon.

they decided here to use the Oxford vaccine on essential workers in certain occupations. They've said agricultural workers and food processers (eg, meat production and packaging plants). The rationale was that workers in these occupations either cannot work spatially distanced and/or cannot wear full PPE.

Of course, unions and people are calling "no, no, w should be first" ........... teachers, transit drivers, cashiers and workers in grocery stores. I'm not sure how they're going to sort that out, and keep every ne happy!!

But everything is relative, is it not?

We are being told that we still have to take full precautions, at least until we reach herd immunity. So how much freer will we be???

The people I really want to hug live 4 time zones away and that is almost 4500 miles (or nearly 2775 kms), takes nearly 8 hrs by plane (at least one change) or 6 days by train. Travel is still restricted, and most provinces require travellers to quarantine for 14 days. That includes Ontario where we would change planes or trains if we needed to stay overnight, Nova Scotia where my family live, and BC on our return!!!

That currently could mean 6 weeks in quarantine in order to spend 10-14 days "holiday".

Ah well!

Sylvia our essential workers are getting offered jabs soon but the Oxford is as I say for anyone in the right age group. Quite frankly the Oxford one is fine for seniors my mum had it in the UK!! The flu jab at best is only 50%.

What I'm worried about is everyone seems to think once you've had the jab you're okay...no...you can still get sick or pass it on but in theory, you won't die from the virus.

Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry and the Health Minister have started to say "No, you cannot, we still need to keep protections in place"

The easing of regulations is now up to 10 people can meet, but ONLY outside, spatially distanced, masks, no hugging. Children can have play dates of 10, outside, etc etc, and ONLY with children in their school bubble. She didn't specify anything for children under school age.

The extra people have to be the same people every time, no meeting with 9 today, another 9 tomorrow, etc!

over 84's will be able to phone in for vaccination appointment as of noon today


all over 80s will be able to phone in on or before Friday.

There's about 100,000 need to be vaccinated in this cohort.

They are also flying squads of vaccination teams into places where there is an apparent uptick in cases, and vaccinating all adults over 18, hopefully within 2-3 days to get the surge stopped.

One of us will phone in on Thursday, get our appointments at the same time and same place.

The way it looks is that we may get the vaccination next week. :-D

OH's age group could phone today ....... we (I :-D ) decided that we would go separately, just in case both of use get a reaction, then there is one "healthy" person to help the other.

I'm not always optimistic!!!

He phoned about 10;30 am, waited about 2 minutes, and has an appointment for Friday next week.

I'll try my luck tomorrow.

Thanks Sylvia. The vaccine wasn't done at my usual health centre-I had to get 2 buses and didn't even really know where I was going. Of course, that added to my anxiety whilst I was already dreading "the needle"!!! When I was called in I explained my needle phobia to the nurse who just suggested I look away, so as not to see anything. OK, I didn't pass out, but I did cry!!!!! I'd worked myself up so much that I think it was just pent up anxiety. I won't be as anxious next time (I don't think) because I can honestly say it felt no worse than a slight pinch. Also, I'll know where I'm going. Good luck with making your appointment. Very sensible to have different dates in case one of you reacts negatively, which I hope you don't. I'll keep my eye out for your news. X

If you think that I don't know where Canada health officials are regarding AstraZenica, and if you think I have not watched and read all I can on ALL the vaccines ................ then have another think.

Note that Canadians do not call it the Oxford vaccine, it is AstraZenica over here, and our supply is coming from India, not the UK.

BC has accepted AstraZenica. They have accepted that Health Canada first said that AstraZenica was not to be given to over 65s, then reversed that decision.

BUT the Provincial Health Officers can make their own recommendations within the permissions allowed, as they and their scientific advisors determine.

BC"s Health Officer has decided that AstraZenica will not be given to over-65s, but will be used to vaccinate essential workers, eg farm workers, food processors, etc who have had difficulty in isolating, wearing PPEs, live in dormitory situation, etc, in tandem with the vaccination of the over-65s with Pfizer and Moderna.

I did not mean anything other than that I knew we were not getting AsrtaZenica because of that ............... I have no comment to make.

I got my appointment .........

........... Tuesday March 30th. Arrive at 10:35 am for an 11:50 am appointment preceding the noon nurse and jab. Will be free about 40 minutes later ........... after a 15 minute wait to see if I keel over :-D

so that is OH having his jab on Friday 26th

OH having a biopsy at a dermatologists on Monday 29th

and me getting jabbed on the 30th.
