Probably because I have been using my hairdresser for twenty odd years, I managed to be fitted in on Christmas Eve so I still have a bob even if the step has grown out at the back.

I was talking to a lady at the eye clinic the other day and she was, I think older than me.She was telling me how embarrassed she had been to realize that she had answered the door with her hair up in bunches like Looby-Loo!

I managed to get an appointment early dec for the usual cut colour and blow dry and looked human again

Should have gone last week for my six week redo together with a manicure but didnt happen

Soo have ordered a ladies trim set with different attachments to try and give it a trim up

Was going to get a semi permanent with my shopping today but sainsbury didn’t have the colour I wanted

Soo it’s still grey roots at the mo :-(

OH has been doing his own - he has some clippers

I usually have short layered hair after trying it long a couple of years ago and deciding I still preferred it short.

Since last March I've been cutting my fringe and the sides and OH has been doing the back. It's been three times now but last time was a bit disastrous when he used the clippers - the first time I've let him, as it's always been scissors which he has been fine with.

Since that time I have only cut the fringe. My hair is now long and it curls up at the ends. It's long enough to bob inwards but I prefer it curling outwards.

It is still grey. I have to say that it's crossed my mind that since March has been the time to try various colours, not ordinary ones - pink and blue tints crossed my mind - but I've done nothing about it. If they were a disaster, no one would see my hair apart from the grocery delivery people. :-D

My hair is very fine and the longer it gets the more chance of the 'fly-away' look.
BUT
Who's going to see it anyway? On my permitted walks in this weather, I wear a hat.

I don't colour it, so that's not a problem either.

It might not look great, but my hair really doesn't bother me, as long as it's clean.

Not a vanity thing but have been pushing it back for many years

I did try not colouring but I looked washed out as have very pale skin with now faded freckles

I do feel better and more me when I have had my hairdresser appointment

So it’s ticking over till can get professional help again :-P

Think ladies can carry off coloured hair better

Blokes dyed hair often looks very flat and false

Currently have my fringe all in my face not long enough to put behind the ears yet! My youngest son and I are competing for who has the longest hair right now...he's winning it's almost at his shoulders all the way round. :-D

I have just sent for hairdressing scissors, daughter is going to have a go at cutting it, it is not too bad but is growing, it is two weeks past the next appointment date.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 1 Feb 2021 15:53

Mine is long for me but not too bad, I'm completely grey and love it, one of my sisters however will not be happy the she can't colour hers, she won't even answer the door without make up on and hair just right.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 1 Feb 2021 16:17

My oldest sister is the same, ZZzzz. She does not want to be seen with grey hair. I am happy with the silvery grey that mine is but perhaps my sister's grey is a different shade because she definitely does not want it on show.

In March she bought a colour for it. She has since used more..

During the summer when she came to sit at a distance in our back garden for an hour, there wasn't a grey hair showing so she has coloured it well.

I have very fair skin while sis's has always been darker so she may not think that grey suits her skin colour.

I bought some hairdressing scissors in the first lockdown and my daughter cut my layers back in, she did a really good job. She isn’t here now though, so I have cut the fringe and sides myself. My trouble is that I can’t see a thing if I take my glasses off, but they get in the way at the sides. It is difficult looking in the mirror and chopping at the same time

I had mine cut last July, not been since, so it is getting down to over my collar, and my side fringe (bang over here) is into my eyes unless I spray some hair spray on it to keep it in place.

I decided to age gracefully, and just let my hair decide the colour. It is now white.

Sometimes letting your hair go grey or white makes you look younger than when you colour it. I have a friend who had coloured her hair from being in her late 40s. About 5 years ago she decided to get it cut very short and had the colour stripped out.

She was 70, but immediately looked at least 10 years younger! You wouldn't believe the compliments she got when she walked into the local coffee shop!! Even people who didn't really know her said how good she looked.

She has also been going to our hairdresser's regularly since they were allowed to open with restrictions last June, so her hair is nice and short.

Some years ago I went to one of those colour matching events. I was told in no uncertain terms NOT to die my hair but to let it carry on greying. The event was expensive but I have saved a lot of money since. :-D

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 1 Feb 2021 18:58

I had very dark hair but started to go a bit grey in my forties and decided to colour it. Having been told not to match my normal colour as it would look harsh but to go a shade or two lighter I picked a nice shade of brown. I thought it looked pretty good. When OH saw it his comment was "It looks like red milk chocolate". I never coloured it again!

Right now it's silver grey and needs cutting. Too short to do anything with and too long to look tidy. Oh well, I'm not the only one in the country with scruffy hair.

Allan .........

that's the easy route!!!!

I also like to think of all the money I have saved by not colouring my hair ..........and I know my friend has blessed the money she has saved in the last 5 years!

I do like to have my hair short, but I also tend to only have it cut every 3-4 months anyway, instead of the 4-5 weeks that the hairdresser suggests to keep it at the same length.
