As there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind what goes into Spam, I agree with Maggie and always check what's there before deleting it.
About a year ago they decided that everything from my BIL (and therefore my sister) was Spam!! Not to mention sometimes important stuff from societies OH belongs to.

It's useful, even important, to look through the trash/promotion etc folders occasionally, as sometimes, you may get an important email from a firm etc. using a different address!
I'm in regular contact with a department in the local Council.
Due to Covid, an important message was sent from different email address - which went to spam.
I also believe it's important to clear debris regularly, it frees up memory.
