LaGooner, there is one in particular, written in both of my gran's autograph books, and my mum's, that I couldn't put on here - not so much rude - just plain racist (though not considered so, at the time) :-S

It's similar in rhythm to this autograph, from 1925

God made the little winkles
and isn't it a sin
to pick the little beggars out
ans eat them with a pin

One of many from late Mum in Law.Father in Laws were not polite enough for on here

Higher up the mountain
greener grows the grass
I saw a Nanny goat sitting on it's

Ask no questions. tell no lies
I saw a monkey doing up it's

Flies are a nuisance bugs are worse
this is the end of a Chinese verse

Another one - from a friend:

When a gangster got wed in Chicago last week
That he did the thing, well, it seems plain
For his bride's wedding dress was made of shot silk
While a pal of his held up her train

From grandad's landlady:

Who took me from my warm, warm cot
and set me on a cold cold pot
Whether I wanted to or not
My mother!

From 1943:

We came home singing all the way
Our songs of right good cheer
And that's the way we're going to sing
When final victory's here.

This one, written by my g grandmother in 1925 confused me:

In fir tar is,
In oak none is,
In mud eel is,
In clay none is.

I 'Googled' it - "when said quickly, appears to be in Latin. The joke may be traced back 500 years to a medical manuscript of Henry VI’s time"

It also has two extra lines at the end, online:

Goat eat ivy,
Mare eat oats.

From Hampshire Granny's book:
My love is like a cabbage
and that I cut in two
The leaves I give to others
The heart I give to you

(written by her future husband) :-)

Do boys dream about
Living in a constant ecstasy
Do boys dream about
The same kind of things
That young girls dream

What do the boys dream
What do the boys all dream of

Do boys dream about
Life in space and hallucination
Do boys dream about
The killing of a friend
The investigation

What do the boys dream
What do the boys all dream of

Do boys dream about
The great escape of the mythical monsters
Do boys dream about
The big romance
With the girl of their dreams

What do the boys dream
What do the boys all dream of

Do the boys dream about
The wonders of the world and all in colour
Do boys dream about
The big romance
With the girl of their dreams

What do the boys dream
What do the boys all dream of

I still have my late Mum's autograph book in which there is a message from my Grandmother who died when my Mum was only 16, in 1937.

If you have a mother, treasure her with care,
For you won't feel the need of her
Till you see her vacant chair!

Sad that Mum, the baby of the family, didn't have her Mum for long. Luckily her 4 older sisters helped fill the gap.

I had an autograph book with many Norwich City footballers sgnatures, I was a fan when I'm my teens), friends from school and some band members but one time I was persuaded by door staff to leave my book after a performance at our Theatre Royal, to be signed by the group and I should collect on the Monday. I can't remember the group but I never saw my autograph book.

I can't think of any funnies right now, sorry.

The rooks are alive
at the tops of the trees
they look llke a hive
of jolly black bees

They all sit together
and loud is their squawking
it must be the weather
thats sets them a talking...

Here lies the graves of 3 poor sinners
who died of eating our school dinners

As I looked up to a tree
a little bird dropped its luck on me
And as I gazed up to the sky
I gave thanks to god that cows can't fly!

A few little dittties from my school autograph book when I left.

Found this amongst my granny's letters:

AFTER THE BALL

After the ball was over
She took out her glass eye
Put her false teeth in the water
Put up her bottle of dye
Stood her cork leg in the corner
Hung her wig up on the wall
And the rest that was left went to bye-bye
After the ball
