Once in a very blue moon we’d get taken to the little Lyons tea shop.
I have never understood why we couldn’t eat all the cakes on the stand - there were always more cakes than people at the table but surely they were all for us :-S

You've reminded me of Patisserie Valery nameless, cake stands always heaving and you just helped yourself. It was either based on honesty or the staff had eagle eyes. I don't think I'd want a cake in that circumstance now :-0

Mr Owl was born in 1982 and remembers the Mivvi as well as three flavours of split.

I think you can still get them!

Mr Owl is the same age as my kids. I think he is remembering the little milk lollies as the Mivvi and splits were fruit flavoured ice over icecream

I remember Bakewell Tarts, but it's been a very long time since I last visited there. ;-)

Mr Owl said Splits were like bread rolls with cream and icing. Mivvi were ice cream hidden by ice lolly.

Is this the jam split?

Tawny

The split had no jam on it just cream and icing. Mr Owl is half Scottish so maybe it’s different here. He grew up in a village of around 5000 people.

How about this, but without the jam in it?

Similar but no jam and cut across the top

Splits are like a bread roll but taste different they are lovely with jam and clotted cream and even lovely with just cornish butter <3 <3

Iced finger cream split. The icing is too much.

The split I remember had the split on the top.
