That's true Sylvia....but....he was sick on the plane during the journey. Other than possibly stopping them at the airport it seems to have gone to plan so far.

Well the Coronavirus is getting worse. My son, D.I.L & grandaughter still in Thailand. He is a teacher in Beijing, at 1st he was told that he had to return on 3rd of Feb. but the school was returning on 17th, this was to give them the 2 weeks incubation period, now he has been told schools across China shut indefinitely & if they are out of the country to stay out. The school children are doing lessons remotely as they have to follow the corriculum & have exams coming up. He thinks it could be all of Feb. as they have to wait untill the Chinese are on top of it 1st. Feel happier that he has'nt to go back yet.
Ann,hope your grandson has been told to hold off going to China for a while.

Hilary I am sure he won't be going yet as BA are not flying to China at all now until at least March and He was probably flying with them. He is pretty sensible and if the schools are shut he won't be needed.

The flight from China has arrived at Military Airport Brize Norton over 100 people on the way to our local hospital in the Wirral over 180 miles away. To be housed in staff quarters which the staff have had to evacuate at short notice with all their belongings, including washing machines etc. Why if under quarantine and show no symptoms need to come onto a very busy Hospital site, this Staff block is right in the middle of Hospital Grounds. Nowhere down South so send em up North me thinks.

Allan Report 31 Jan 2020 00:05

Probably a slightly better situation than Ozzie evacuees who have each to pay for their evacuation flight and then will be taken to the old refugee detention centre on Christmas Island for fourteen days.

They will then be sent to Perth from where they have to make their own way to wherever home is.

The cost of the flight out of China is $1000.00

Maureen .............

I guess it's because a) the authorities want to be darn sure that none of them is infected, and b) the authorities don't trust them all to quarantine themselves at home.

Better to be safe than sorry

A block in hospital grounds might be a bit more comfortable than in quarters on a service base, as has happened in the US

It has just been announced that we have two confirmed cases. Both family members.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 31 Jan 2020 11:50

The confirmed cases are in Newcastle.

Edit: which could mean they came from somewhere in the North of England rather than Newcastle itself.

The couple that are infected were staying in a hotel in York and were ill on Monday.

So hopefully they haven't spread it around York or anywhere else in Yorkshire.

My weekend phone call from 'auntie E' won't be fun! She lives near Arrowe park hospital where the returnees are to be taken. I hope the hygiene will be better than she said it was on the ward when she was last there :-0

It's not Rose, my daughter(in the area) says if the virus doesn't kill them the hospital grime and germs will. :-0

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 31 Jan 2020 14:08

All of the 83 people that will be stopping at the Arrowe Hospital will be in STAFF quarters.

So should be comfortable seeing as the nhs management have kicked the staff out of their little hideaways.

It is just a thought of course ( not being one for conspiracy theories) but the Wirral being a peninsula as such, 'could' be isolated if push came to shove, close the roads out to Cheshire, close the tunnels, stop the ferries......

Is it me or does anyone else think it the height of stupidity, if not worse, that the hotel in York where the people tested positive with Coronovirus were staying, has remained open. Their room has been sealed off but the hotel has remained open. (they were taken ill on Wednesday) what about other visitors out and about sight seeing?
That is what I have read anyway. They have been unable to get any information.

Watching the coaches heading out from Brize Norton, to right of windscreens person in full protective gear, to left and very slightly in front coach driver, not even a face mask. :-(

So many questions!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 31 Jan 2020 15:38

I wondered about that. I see all the coaches have to go to be deep cleaned after use. I think the drivers all volunteered for the job. I wondered if there was extra money offered to those who drove. And, I also wondered, will those drivers now have to go into quarantine?

nameslessone Report 31 Jan 2020 19:09

Glad I’ve not got any outings planned. Horseman’s is a local company.

Hope the drivers are all ok and don’t bring anything back with them.

4th case for Canada - 3rd in Ontario. 1st case the man is now home from the hospital and being monitored at home with his wife. Shows that if caught early and treated it can be dealt with if you have no other health problems. Hopefully, that happens for all....highly doubt it though.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Jan 2020 19:43

I've seen a couple of reports out of China that it is mainly elderly men with other health problems who are dying.

Caroline

Caroline Report 31 Jan 2020 22:13

The third case in Ontario involves a student from China who at first had a negative test for the virus, but here they're doing 2 tests to be sure, the second test came back positive but only just so very mild. She's recovering at home.
