Yes DNA matching is more reliable than what gets put on some birth certs! How exciting to have what you couldn't prove before confirmed though. I have had hunches proved with DNA matches before but still have a tantalising very interesting possible link I can't prove yet to Lady Godiva! :-D

THIS IS WHAT MY ISSUE WAS ......

It is well documented and proven that the Nicholas Family from TRESARE / TRESAER FARM, near Mathry in Pembrokeshire, were the family of Jemima.
The first Nicholas to live at Tresare was Isaac, Jemima's brother, when he married into the John Family who had the lease to the farm.

The Tresare Nicholas's were predominantly Seamen, many of them quite famous Sea Captains, one of whom wrote memoirs which assert that Jemima was his great Aunt. This Sea Captain was Captain Dan or Daniel who was also a brother of the Captain James I posted about earlier. There is a lot on line about Captain Daniel.

My problem was my 2x Great Grandfather William. WAS HE ALSO A TRESARE NICHOLAS? a brother to Captains James and Dan? or just another William Nicholas from the area?

I sent for his marriage certificate to my 2x Great Grandmother (of whom I was 100% sure) It said William (a Merchant Seaman) was the son of Evan Nicholas a farmer from that area.
I could not find any other farmer Evan or farm with a son William that fitted the bill having searched all Census', and other official records along with sending for his birth certificate. So I was 99.9% sure of my facts, but always that little niggle!

It didn't help that Tresare Farm's William Nicholas' memorial stone asserts that he drowned in September 1871. This would have been just a couple of weeks after marrying my 2xGreat Grandmother, if indeed he was the same man. :-0

Descendants of the other brothers that I have had contact with did not know that William had married let alone that his widow had had a son!

So, having a high DNA match to a descendant of Captain James, who's lineage is without dispute, has put that slight niggle to rest for good!!!!
