GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND
The anthem has English and Maori lyrics, with slightly different meanings. When performed in public, the usual practice is to sing the first verse in both Maori and English.
Maori Verse:
Maori verse: "Aotearoa"
E Ihowa Atua,
O nga iwi matou ra
Ata whakarangona;
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai;
Kia tau to atawhai;
Manaakitia mai
Aotearoa

English translation (Karetu)

Lord, God over yonder,
Of all our nations
Listen to us gently,
With the infinite love
May the goodness bear fruit;
May your kindness come;
Please give protection to
Aotearoa

English verse: "God Defend New Zealand"

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

SOUTH AFRICA’s ANTHEM ... NKOSI SIKELEL iAFRICA

Since 1997, the South African national anthem has been a hybrid song combining new English lyrics with extracts of the hymn 'Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika' (God Bless Africa) and 'Die Stem van Suid-Afrika' (The Call of South Africa).

Language: XHOSA
Lyrics: Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrica, Maluphakanyisw uphono Iwayo
(God bless Africa, Let it’s horn be raised)

Language: ZULU
Lyrics: Yizwa imithandazo yethu, Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo
(Listen also to our prayers, Lord bless us, we are the family of it (Africa)

Language: SESOTHO
Lyrics: Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso. O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho.
O se boloke. O se boloke setjhaba sa heso, Setjhaba sa, South Afrika, South Afrika .
English Translation: Lord bless our nation. Stop wars and sufferings. Save it, save our nation, the nation of South Africa, South Africa.

Language: AFRICAANS
Lyrics: Uit die blou van onse hemel, uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes, waar die kranse antwoord gee,
English Translation: From the blue of our skies,
From the depth of our sea, over everlasting mountains,
Where the echoing cliffs resound in answer

Language: ENGLISH
Lyrics: Sounds the call to come together and united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom in South Africa our land.
