I currently don't have A.C.....running around closing windows and curtains all day and moving fans...we survive...for the short term. :-)

We don't have AC, never have had because it just wasn't needed in the Lower Mainland ...... needed definitely in the Interior of BC, but not here.

It really has only been in the last 3 years that we've had more than a couple of hot days at around 30C. Now we get several days at 28 to 32C in several weeks of the year. Luckily the weeks are rarely consecutive, we usually get a few days of cooler weather as a relief.

Houses built in the last 10 year or so have had inbuilt AC, even when it was not needed.

We have stand-alone fans in every room, but the front of the house also faces north so tends to be much cooler.

We made what has turned out to be a bad mistake when we had a reno and extension done back in 1977 ...... the 2 new rooms face south, and we added loads of windows facing east and south plus a skylight on the west side of the sloping roof. Lovely for growing plants, and lots of bright light. Great for a family room but .................

It gets hotter 'n hades in that room by mid-afternoon ...... that's when I retreat to the north-facing living room.

The other room is now a study cum bedroom, and we kept the 3 windows to a much smaller size and no skylight, so it keeps a fairly even temperature even with a flat roof. It gets cool enough with a small table top fan blowing at night for a duvet to be comfortable if anyone is sleeping in there.




You really can tell climate change has happened here. :-(

We only have two south facing windows thank goodness and the west ones can be kept cooler by closing blinds etc....that said won't be upset when A.C. back. :-)
