Motown ............... I don't know about that tip being "patronising".

It might be necessary

Think of all the young ladies wearing high heeled boots ................... especially so-called "fashion icons" that youngsters follow

Victoria Beckham with her high heeled toe-less boots last week in cold temperatures in NY

x-month pregnant Meghan with her incredibly high heels

We see young women tip-toeing along in such ridiculous footwear even over here!

Caroline Report 1 Feb 2019 18:50

Yep even this week with the snow and the cool temps you can easily find high heel wearing no hat no gloves fashionable women downtown.....don't want to ruin the makeup and hair dear :-D

Yep you could be right Sylvia. I've got sensible and now wear me boots.

I did see a few tottering along this morning.

I was booted, hooded and gloved. And still slipped and slid along. :-(

In laws still snowed in. Apparently the temps will rise slightly this weekend.

Motown .............. hope you in-laws are keeping warm and cosy. Yes, it is supposed to warm up for them in the next few days.

............... meanwhile, we in the "Banana Belt" are expected to get colder after this weekend, with even the possibility of "a few flakes" on Sunday!

I heard yesterday that the scientists have decided the Polar Vortex is a result of climate change, which has resulted in a change in direction of the polar air stream

The UK is not equipped to for artic conditions, the worst has to be drivers.

Many have never driven in an inch of snow let alone any decent depth....and they never have any much needed equipment in the car...…...some not even a coat.!!!

although there will be somebody that has taken an extensive course in dire conditions and is a boy scout...…... :-D.

and agree the 6" heeled boots...….are must,,,,,, ;-) :-D

I see Meghan wore a very elegant pair of suede boots with 6" (??) heels to Bristol today :-D

Just what you need in snow!

In the 1970's I got stuck in Lerwick - due to snow.
Ex (then boyfriend) worked one end of the mainland - I lived on an island to the West of the mainland (fortunately with a causeway),. He got weekend leave once a month.
So, we decided to meet in Lerwick one Saturday evening.
It started snowing at 7pm. By 9pm the snow was quite high.
10 pm we decided to leave the pub and go back to our respective 'homes'.
Only one taxi had snow chains. My 'usual' taxi, John, was P*ssed as a newt and couldn't pick me up.
After trawling all the (one) hotels in Lerwick, the Seaman's mission and any other place for somewhere to stay - we ended up in separate cells in the local police station!
The next morning (6am) - ex came upon a minibus picking up people from where he worked to take them home.
I found nothing.
It took me five and a half hours to walk the 15 miles home, in 3ft of snow.
Did you know, snow travels up flared jeans, and makes your legs heavy?
Platform shoes - even wedge heels aren't really suitable for walking in snow:-(
Since then, I've never worn flares - and any footwear I have, has to be comfortable enough for me to walk 20 miles in - it's not an age thing, I decided on this change at 21!

We now have a very light sprinkling of snow, and temperature around 0C, although the skies are really "threatening" ........ rain or snow????

Monday through Wednesday promise to be nice ............... sun, clear skies, and highs of -1 to +1 during the day :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 3 Feb 2019 21:05

Caroline

Caroline Report 3 Feb 2019 23:03

Yep only meant to be 4 all day and night but we're at 8 but less rain than expected just a slight drizzle.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Feb 2019 23:18

the temperature's dropping here ............ it's colder now at about 3:15 pm than it was at 9:30 am, the sun is shining, but the little bit of snow that fell late morning is now frozen.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Feb 2019 01:43

Good luck :-D

MargaretM Report 4 Feb 2019 10:51

Even though I'm in the same province as Caroline our temperature never got above zero. Today it's minus 7 and we're under a freezing rain warning.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Feb 2019 12:10

:-D Seems we're staying above freezing for 2 whole days/nights but by breakfast tomorrow we'll dip down again. They threaten freezing drizzle on us yesterday but we didn't get any, hopefully, you'll be as lucky too. Stay indoors and warm.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Feb 2019 17:25

High yesterday here was 0.5C, went down to ca -6C overnight, and is now ca -5C at almost 9:30 am. High today expected to be -5C .......... so I guess no change!

Wind chill factor = feeling like -12C

Flurries of snow all night, we have less than 1 cm at the house, more in other parts of the city. Sun is shining but the sky is a strange whitish colour.

Many parts of the province are down to -40C.

These temperature changes are happening so quickly ................ people were taking photos of snowdrops and the winter cherries in flower last week. :-0

Caroline Report 5 Feb 2019 12:19

Margaret hope you didn't get much if any freezing rain I see Quebec did nearby. Stay indoors if you did!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 5 Feb 2019 13:06

We just got a little freezing rain. not enough to cause a problem but enough for them to cancel schoolbuses yesterday. They've canceled them again today. The temp is plus 5 now and we had rain overnight so it's terribly slippery. I'm going to have a problem getting my newspaper from my mailbox which is a rural mailbox across the road. My driveway is a skating rink. Guess I'll have to attach my ice grippers to my boots in order to get my paper.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Feb 2019 13:20

The newspaper can wait!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Feb 2019 16:59

Margaret .............. hope you got your paper safely, and without falling.

My newspaper wasn't delivered this morning ........ we still have to the house delivery here. Phoned in, no apparent reason for it not being delivered, must be fogetfulness on the part of the carrier.

Unfortunately, they "no longer send out a replacement paper" as they used to do, so account will be credited for today's paper ......... and I guess we have to pay full price at the store if we want one!!

I was a little worried because my invoice for renewing my subscription arrived last Wednesday afternoon (that's when we get our mail delivery) ......... January 29, invoice showing subscription ended January 25. OOPS

Phoned in, girl at the other end said ................. that's Canada Post's fault. Eh?????

I thought work to rule had ended!!!

Anyway, I wondered if word had not got to the carrier that we were paid up!

Apparently everything fine there!

It's currently (almost 9 am) ca -6C here, no more snow but what is left is frozen solid.

I have to go out today, down near the waterfront, so it will be colder down there.

The Fraser Valley had real problems yesterday with very strong arctic outflow winds through the valleys in the mountains on each side of the FV ................ very very cold, and damage done. Even a large highway directional sign was blown over, with the supports broken at the bottom. Luckily it was one standing by the side of the road and not an overhead one so no other damage done.
