It just goes to prove that when researching family history you never know what is going to come out of the next cupboard. Sophie thought her Mott family was going to be about a famous piano builder but turned into a quest for peace, liberty & plenty which tragically never materialised.

Never heard of a Pinery Vinery before, but I have now :-D

I'm always amazed to see how often we are drawn to places etc., that unknown to us, have a connection to our ancestors! :-)

What a fascinating programme. Very sad too when Sophie discovered what had happened to her Mott ancestors.

"Bangla Desh" is a song by English musician George Harrison. It was released as a non-album single in July 1971, to raise awareness for the millions of refugees from the country formerly known as East Pakistan, following the 1970 Bhola cyclone and the outbreak of the Bangladesh Liberation War.

I found it very interesting as didn't know about any of the Pakistan situation.

I wanted to know if there were any of the family left anywhere & where they went.

I also found it interesting Von, maybe because my grt grandfather
is supposed to have been born in India...my brick wall for decades.

I knew about the wars and what the people had suffered.

Two weeks before the next one.

I like the variety of different cultures and how they came about.

I found it really interesting. I'm pleased that they were able to explain about the wars as like you Belle I didn't recall the birth of Bangladesh.

I found it to be more of a history lesson. I too was surprised that, although relatively recent events, I did not recall the birth of Bangladesh and the bloody war prior. Overall though, I found it interesting and most probably would not have considered watching the programme if it wasn't WDYTYA :-)

I found it interesting - how come the West/East Pakistan war was/ is spoken about so little?
Also, to realise how bad it was, and how it affected not only individuals, but whole societies, and destroyed a way of life that had been going on for eons.

It's made me 'Google' the effect Partition had on later events in India.

It was interesting enough in its way. At least they didn't end up at Amritsar and find that her family had already been there.

We do have to remember that there are a large number of 1st + generation British 'Indians' who might be interested in their origins. We've also had a number of Caribbean based programmes. The Beeb does have to appeal to them as well as 'white' Brits with possible European connections.

Watched some of it .but couldn't get interested .not my night .no Emmerdale either :-\

Yes she was a Doctor in Casualty .Zoe .in it for a while .if you don't watch the programme or havent done in the past she wont be known by you . Good actress Barbra
