Well with all this info you must feel reassured, Scozz. Hope the whole episode goes well for you and there is nothing to worry about at the end

Just had a 'phone call from the clinic, confirming my appointment for next Friday.

Really nice woman on the 'phone, so I asked her if I could add anything to the powder mix to make it taste better, as I've heard it's really awful.

Another woman in the office had a probe last week, and she advised me to put some lemon/lemonade Gatorade in it. Mix the powder with warm water, add the Gatorade, and put it in the fridge. She said it's easier to drink when it's cold....... and also advised using a drinking straw, put the straw as far back in your mouth as you can!

:-(

I hate Gatorade :-(

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Aug 2015 01:01

the instructions with the powder OH uses say ...........

Mix one packet with amount of water (I think it is 1 litre)

Put in fridge for 1 hour.

Drink one 8 oz glass every 15 minutes

Repeat with the second packet, drinking it at the stated time ............ there's a period of 3 or so hours between drinking the two fluids.

It does actually say that the liquid tastes better chilled.

OH just drinks it as fast as he can so he tastes as little as possible

His exam is usually first thing in the morning, so he can drink the first lot between about 1-2 pm, we can go for coffee from about 2:30-3:30 pm because he's found that nothing happens after that first one.

Then he drinks the second lot about 4 or 5 pm

action takes place between about 6-10 pm, and then it is usually all over and done with and he can go to bed.

Good grief Sylvia, how on earth does your man manage 2 litres of the mixture? :-0

The two powders I had only needed to be mixed with a tumbler of water each. It wasn't that bad to drink either, it had a sort of citrus flavour though it was still better drunk as quickly as possible.

My second one was an afternoon appointment but I still had to have the second drink early evening so that I could get a good night's sleep after it finished working. Some chance! It didn't start working till 3 am and at 11 am I was panicking I wouldn't be ready to leave for the hospital at 1 pm.

All was fine and when I told the nurse this she said everyone reacts a bit differently to the drink but we all seem to make it to the hospital in time.

Lady Scozz, we all make it sound terrible but it really isn't that bad. You!ll be posting soon and telling us that you don't know what all the fuss was about :-D

It's like cataracts - the anticipation is far worse than the actual procedure.

Stop worrying. You'll be fine. :-) :-) :-)

Day 1 of the diet

Got a 'phone call yesterday morning, rellies on the way north......... they turned up last night........ somehow or other, a real dinner got forgotten about (long story), because they had a late lunch. We had nibbles (cheese & biscuits, dips, strawberries.... and a few drinkies).

I had toast & banana for breakfast.

I'm starving.

BBQ planned for dinner tonight...... for everybody else........... I'm having steamed fish :-(

I've told DH & rellies they can make their own salads etc, not fair to expect me to prepare food I'm not allowed to eat!

Years ago, I had the barium enema one and after the procedure it was have a shower and back to work. The nurse told me I would have lots of wind and would be passing concrete.. I said I work in my own bookshop and have to serve the customers and she told me when I felt the wind coming to just bang a couple of books together.

Oh and I also drank more than 2 litres of the gunk.

LadyScozz Report 10 Aug 2015 05:08

lol Persie

Thanks for the advice :-D

I had planned on locking myself in the loo on Thursday night, with the radio on really LOUD. I think I'll take a couple of large hardback books with me.

I wish I knew how to play the trumpet. ;-) or a bassoon

Day 4

I am fed up with fish, potato & pumpkin :-(

Had toast for brekky, not allowed anything else, until after the probe tomorrow (I can have clear liquids & some yellow jelly).

If any of you are in the vicinity of northern NSW, I'd advise you to take cover between 6 & 11pm today.

;-)

My dad had two bowel cancer operations. Before the first one as he was over 80 they did the whole gunky procedure at the hospital.

My Daughter said to him what are they going to do to you Grandpa

His reply was " they are going to stick a tube up my bum with a light on it to see if my hat's on straight".... :-)

"An endoscopy & a colonoscopy at the same time?"
I recall you asking this recently, LadyScozz..
Not sure if you've had yours, but I've just come in from having both of them - third time - done together this afternoon.
I was 'out of it' completely.
I woke up to see - and to gratefully eat - two biscuits and a grape juice drink. Ah, Bisto!
This was my first nourishment of anything for 36 hours ... and so it was really welcome!
This is my fifth colonoscopy I recall.
Things seem pretty good, thankfully.
I also have my own CD of the pictures the doctor took. He always gives patients a copy.
To cap it all, he drove me home!
Can't be bad!
I do hope everything goes well for you, too.
