Oooooooooooooooooooooo and I had another big breakthrough on my tree!
which I must share with you (I can hear the yawns)

Some of you will remember that my Grandfather was born in what was then Persia, as his father was working for the British Consolate.

The family legend had it that my Grandfather was born in The Shah of Persia's Palace. But although my G.Grandfather was very well thought of by the local people and the British Hierarchy alike (I've found lots about him in books) being a very learned man of all things Persian, I could not connect him directly to the Shah.

I have been trying to trace my Granddad's older brother who emigrated to New Zealand (I found this out on FMP)
I typed in his and his wife's (maiden) names into google and found a website that told me he... EDITED- MY GREAT GRANDFATHER that is, was the Secretary to the Shah! :-0 :-0 :-0
So the legend is probably true!

I now know my G. Uncle's son and wife's names. They died mid to late 2000. But they have a daughter who is a big business woman in New Zealand.

I have found her through my secret Facebook account, which I have never used except to spy! She has a very unusual name so it was easy. She is my 2nd cousin.

I am toying with the idea of trying to contact her!

It's good to hear that Baby Cara is improving Mers <3

How is your Nan? <3

Belle, all my mother's mother's ancestors were agricultural labourers and I enjoy finding out about them too, but it's not quite so much fun to brag about ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D

People lately are seeming to be very negative about GR but I have to say that my experience with GR has been a very positive and rewarding one!

There have been records I have found on FMP that are not on GR, but also I have found records on GR that are not on FMP too.

Mind you, I haven't tried ancestry, but I know that there's a howler of a mistake on one of my paternal 3x Great Grandparents' marriage on there!

LondonBelle Report 19 Apr 2015 10:16

I always like to find original records to back mine up, Jem..not always easy though when everyone was called John, William, Mary or Elizabeth :-0 :-S

What I have found though is that if you keep digging and digging you often get to a eureka moment ;-) :-D :-D

Fly, if you find out any more clues or names, give me a shout! :-)

It's obviously harder modern day and without background knowledge for me to go on. It's much easier to go backwards I find. When you get to the Census' usually it's much easier to trace people. Unless you are a Jones of course! :-D :-D
