I am quite shocked that the candle sight is not full of lit candles. Surely this is a better way to show respect, rather than a heart icon on a thread.

I too lost someone last November, think of her every day, walk round my garden which she loved, smile at memories. Thank God that she is now out of pain & no longer confused (she had Alzheimer's)

I personally think a memory board is the best answer all round

If GR has any sense then they would add one very quickly

That way those who want to add something can do so in peace every day if they want to & nudge it up as much as they want to keep it at the top.

Nothing needs to be stickied by GR on this board & no one needs to be treated badly

I cannot imagine GR will ever sticky a thread about the passing of a member ever again, if this is the kerfuffle that ensues .

Either way - asking GR to unpin would have been deemed sneaky,

courting opinion as to unpinning has resulted in all this.

What is the solution? GR not to pin them in the first place- no argument then.

Yes Shirley I agree.

Tomorrow I am meeting up with my 3 elder sisters & their partners, as we have done 4 or 5 times a year since our Mother went to join Dad. Though never put into words we all know that each meet could be the last for one of us. My Brother in Laws all have heart problems... pace makers/heart bypasses.

After our meal we will go up to the village church & as my eldest sister said last time "See who is now there".

Well we lost our youngest brother in Sept and our sister lost her hubby of 59 years in Dec
We have also lost another elder sister and brother so from a family of 8 kiddies I am the eldest one still here ,

Hubby isnt in the best of health at 81either

Its inevitable we are born and we have our life span and we go . NO if or buts about it

Those that are left can grieve as we have done for our nearest and dearest BUT life goes on otherwise why would we be looking at our family trees??

It does get a bit ??? when one realizes our own names will someday be on the GRO records ,

I do think a Memorial Board is an excellent idea then those who are grieving can visit the board to get comfort

and I think that I would add to Carol's very sensitive posting ..................



don't castigate those who grieve and remember in a way different from you.

Those of us who have posted on this board for many years are all getting closer to being reunited with our ancestors, over the years many of our cyber friends have already gone from these boards... too many to name.
When we lose those who we love, the cards and letters well wishers send us are removed after a short while & placed where we can get them out and take comfort from them when we need it.

I was told by a Grievance Councillor that our lives must go on; you do not need to have a physical reminder of your losses on view at all times, celebrate in your heart that they lived & were loved.

I think the suggestion of a Memorial Board is a good one & long overdue.

Shirley don't let a minority put you off. The fact that your opening post has been reinstated demonstrates that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Thanks folks
Still feeling a bit shell shocked I must admit BUT I am still here. Being a long term member I enjoy helping others with look ups as my own trees are back to parish records So I will still post but on the other boards for the time being .

I have enjoyed sharing things on General and thank you for the kind responses on my threads when I needed comfort in the last months for family losses etc.

My hubby needs my care but I can still enjoy helping others who share my family history interest

Tabitha, I do hope Shirley posts again soon, I've been in touch with her, and I think the nasty comments posted, have made her wary of posting, how sad is that.

Shirley doesn't deserve to feel that she can't post a perfectly inoffensive post,without being called names, nor does anyone, it's not on. Obviously GR think her post perfectly fine, or they wouldn't of reinstated it.

We haven't been in touch on the board prior to this - but i dont like to see anyone being trated the way you were

Methinks whoever did it was deliberately trying to stir things up and inflame the situation.
