THE UNDER 20s SIX NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 2
Last Friday, February 13th
SCOTLAND Under 20s, 36 ~~ WALES Under 20s, 34
Wales Under 20s failed to build on their exceptional win against England, when they faced Scotland at Netherdale last weekend.

THE MATCH:
This match was at times exciting but frustrating in equal measures.
Wales Under 20s started as the favourites to win their match against Scotland Under 20s. Riding high on their fantastic win against Champions England Under 20s, the young Welsh side must have felt confident that they would beat Scotland.
Despite out-scoring the Scottish team 5 Tries to 3,Wales' ill-discipline cost them the game. After only five minutes of the match, Wales had already conceded two penalties leading Scotland to gain 6 points from Penalty Goals.
Wales gave away Penalty after Penalty to the young Scots.
Wales’ ADAM BEARD was Yellow Carded for a High Tackle.
Team Manager, Mark Taylor, was very disappointed and critical of his young team. He said that discipline is definitely something that will be looked into in the run up to their next match against France on February 28th.
There was some excellent playing by Wales however, and some great moments.
I am very impressed by Wales Under 20s’ Full Back DAFYDD HOWELLS. He is certainly one to watch for the future, as are TOM PHILLIPS, JOSH ADAMS and GARYN SMITH who was compared by S4C’s Commentator to a young JAMIE ROBERTS.
SCOTLAND Under 20s Fly Half GEORGE HORNE had 100% Goal Success, and played an excellent kicking game.
Conspicuous by his absence was CAPTAIN RORY THORNTON. This was because Rory had been drafted in to The Ospreys because of an injury crisis. He headed for Edinburgh with them on Friday Night, for The Guinness Pro 12.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/ospreys-hand-first-league-start-8632647
OLLIE GRIFFITHS Captained the team for this match, in Rory's place.

THE VERDICT ON THE SCOTLAND v WALES MATCH
What did players and management have to say. The following people were interviewed straight after the match.
WALES CAPTAIN SAM WARBURTON: “A MASSIVE TEST MATCH... The score line does not reflect how tough that game was!”
WALES’ JAMIE ROBERTS: “The defence was 50% better than last week. The boys defended admirably. Scotland is a far improved team and put us under pressure. As a team we are pretty shattered. The boys put their bodies on the line today (Sunday)”
WALES HEAD COACH WARREN GATLAND: “We went out and played some rugby! We kept ball in hand and moved Scotland around and we looked dangerous.” “It was the toughest Scotland team we have played for a few years . It was a TOUGH GAME. We thoroughly deserved the win!”
SCOTLAND CAPTAIN GREIG LAIDLAW: “Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s frustrating because we know we were playing GOOD RUGBY. “
Greig also referred to the decision by Referee Brian Jackson to blow the whistle to end the game with 3 seconds left on the clock. This was, in fact, a bad decision by the TMO judge, who the referee consulted with.
SCRUM V ‘s #RantBox Audience:
Various words were used to describe the feelings of Wales fans over the win- Lucky, Relieved, Happy, Over the Moon.
Who was the Man Of The Match in the eyes of Wales #RantBox people?
One Welshman said “STUART HOGG” It was his opinion that the Scotland Full Back should have had that title because of his “Ball Carrying, Defence, Attack... ALL THE WAY!”
Another Welshwoman said LEIGH HALFPENNY. “His kicking was outstanding as always and very accurate”
Many said it should have been LIAM WILLIAMS- “Outstanding performance” said one.
Another said that Liam “BROUGHT EVERY TACKLE, Rucked very well” He thought that Liam’s Try should have been given. (Actually, No it shouldn’t. There was obstruction by Wales!!! :-|)
THE PERSON WHO WAS IN FACT AWARDED MAN OF THE MATCH WAS WALES’ ALUN-WYN JONES. AND VERY DESERVEDLY SO! :-)

SCRUM V’s SIX NATIONS SPECIAL
ANALYSIS OF ROUND 2 MATCHES
JASON MOHAMMAD hosted this week’s SCRUM V Six Nations Special on Sunday Evening
On the panel this week, discussing Round 2’s matches were-
PHIL BENNETT Wales (1969–1978) 2 Lions Tours ( 1974, 1977)
ROBERT JONES Wales (1986-1995) 2 Lions Tours (1989, 1993)
GARETH LLEWELLYN Wales (1989 – 2004)
PHIL BENNETT: Phil started his take on Sunday's game by comparing it to the WALES v ENGLAND game of the previous week!
Talking of THAT game, Phil said that it was “THE BIGGEST NON-EVENT OF HIS INTERNATIONAL WATCHING AND PLAYING CAREER”. He said that the fans were “CHEATED”.
He talked of the “Build-Up”- was the roof going to be open or closed, for example, the darkness, the lasers. “PEOPLE PAID £80 A TICKET AND NEITHER SIDE WANTED TO COME ONTO THE PITCH- DISASTEROUS!” said Phil! Wales’ game was “quite awful” he said, “ NO TICKS FOR ANY PLAYERS!”
Talking about the SCOTLAND v WALES game, he said he had 3 TICKS – for LIAM WILLIAMS, LEIGH HALFPENNY and DAN BIGGAR, who were “OUTSTANDING” he said.
Also commended by Phil , were GETHIN JENKINS, who was “ Back to his very best”, TAULUPE FALATAU- “Outstanding” and ALUN-WYN JONES, who was “ Totally Magnificent!”
With regard to the Scotland v Wales match, Phil declared “THE BIG INTERNATIONAL STOOD UP TO BE COUNTED TODAY (Sunday) AND RUGBY WAS THE WINNER!”
ROB JONES: Rob was asked if Wales’ motivation was back. He said the Scotland v Wales match was “A far more passionate performance, A GUTSY WIN!”
Rob too had commendation for LIAM WILLIAMS saying “Liam Williams offers you something a little bit more than any other back we have. HE HAS TO KEEP HIS PLACE”
GARETH LLEWELLYN: Jason Mohammad asked Gareth “In terms of performance, were there signs of how we can develop and go forward?"
“Yes” he replied, “ If we are going to develop our game we have got to PUT MORE WIDTH ON THE BALL”
Gareth had commendation for DAN BIGGAR, who was “Fantastic again!”. Also JAMIE ROBERTS “Back to his best” He said Jamie took some big collisions, and was “ultimately, too strong for Scotland”
THE AERIAL GAME: This is where ground is made by kicking the ball high and then chasing it, for the kicker or another of your team players to catch.
The Scrum V panel said that Wales won the Aerial game “Hands down”. Perhaps HANDS UP would have been the more appropriate phrase!
DAN BIGGAR was “Fantastic” in his aerial play, said ROB JONES. He also had commendation for LEIGH HALFPENNY, JAMIE ROBERTS and LIAM WILLIAMS. He said that all the kicks were high enough to keep “ constantly competing”.
GARETH LLEWELLYN said that Wales was “Tactically spot on” ... ...“We were winning all the collisions and so we were able to impose our USUAL style of play on Scotland”. WOULD THAT BE PLAN A, GARETH?!!! ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D
Wales won “the Battle in the Air and on the ground” Gareth declared.
WALES’SCRUM HALF (9) RHYS WEBB was also commended by the panel.
Up until recently, MIKE PHILLIPS <3 was Wales’ first choice Scrum Half. Mike has been relegated to the replacement bench. OLD AGE COMES TO US ALL! ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D
The panel said Rhys was fantastic. He has the ability to get himself over the Tryline. He’s sharp, and puts himself into good positions. He supports runs, and keeps defenders occupied. HE’S A THREAT!
ALL IN ALL, WALES <3ARE LOOKING IN GREAT SHAPE TO FACE FRANCE ON FEBRUARY 28th! :-) :-)

THE LIAM WILLIAMS DEBATE
There have been lots of discussions and controversy about the placing of Liam Williams in the Welsh side, in connection with WHO TO LEAVE OUT if he is given a place.
Scrum V’s presenter JASON MOHAMMAD said that Liam Williams may not have a “blistering pace” but he is very hard to tackle and gains metres.
PHIL BENNETT declared that Liam was “the OUTSTANDING BACK in Regional Rugby this season” and that he is “Very, very strong and great in the air”.
Liam has “RARE TALENT”, said Phil. “WALES HAS A HUGE DECISION TO MAKE!” - who to pick and who to drop.
Phil would drop ALEX CUTHBERT and have LIAM WILLIAMS, LEIGH HALFPENNY and GEORGE NORTH as the backs.
IF THERE ARE ANY RUGBY FOLLOWERS READING THIS... .....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
WHO WOULD YOU PICK FOR THE WALES BACKS AND WHO WOULD YOU DROP? :-S :-S :-S
