What on earth have Kindles Kobos and such to do with the subject of this thread ?

It is often a wonder to UK residents all the way up to PM that the country does not occupy much at all of the average American's attention span up to and including the White House. For the most part that includes classic English lit.

One of the fall out consequences of this, getting back to the thread topic, is that it is real ez to rent bandwidth on a US VPN for a few dollars a month and forget all about the latest wheeze of UK "security" or US geo restrictions. Unless the said usage annoys the CIA big time then the user is as free as the air. The most typical UK reason for using VPN is to watch tv. However it also allows access to any amount of crud which the US deems to be free speech and there is absolutely nothing the UK can do about it.

Rollo - slightly off topic but have you seen the W10 upgrade announcement?

I agree about VPNs - which makes the censorship announcement even more ridiculous.

I have been using the beta for a while and although a linux guru have to admit that Win10 is good. Very good in fact. Even better it will do away with IE as default browser.

Anyone with a half decent command of the English language, grammar and basic logic would agree that the in no way does the phrase "Kindle-toting pseudo-intellectuals" say in any shape or form that Kindle users are pseudo-intellectuals.
Take a good look at the phrase but please do not criticise me for your inability to read it correctly.
I find it somewhat amusing that a small and predictable group chose to jump on me on this thread (not a reference to any individual of course).

I went to school with a pseudo intellectual. She is now a Phd and university senior lecturer in sociology and psychology. Perhaps we should drop the pseudo? Does she have a kindle? No idea :-D

The current tiff on this thread just goes to show how we can interpret the same written words in different ways. Although I love my kindle, I'd be concerned if there were no new paper publications. We've all seen in our lifetime how electronic storage has changed. In a doomsday scenario, it could all be wiped out whereas if there were thousands of paper books scattered around the world, at least some copies would survive.

Methinks that just maybe a "select few" have an issue not with grammar, English or meaning but more with the poster.

The term "pseudo-intellectual" was used to describe a certain type of person who can often be found in coffee bars and happens to be toting a Kindle whilst holding court. If I had said iPhone 6-toting pseudo-intellectual would all iPhone 6 owners feel affronted?
