If ever you and G can get on holiday again, I can thoroughly recommend our hotel in Madeira - no kids allowed, peaceful but friendly, lovely rooms, geared up for people in wheelchairs, and tons of lovely restaurants just outside the door - would go back any time! :-D :-D :-D ;-)

It's called the Hotel Porto Santa Maria, in Funchal. :-D I'd say the only disadvantage of the area is the amount of cobbles on the pavements.
