Nobody goes to so much trouble and flies for hours just to put a plan into the side of a mountain or into the sea. So mostly likely the plane has landed - low on fuel it would not need much over a mile strip. If it has landed then criminals will soon start demanding ransomes. If it is terrorists they will start making threats. And if the silence goes on ? A lot of intelligence people will be more than a little worried.

fwiw most of the planet is NOT covered by 24/24 radar surveillence and that especially applies to the current search area.

Just looked at all the armchair theories on one news channel. Hope we have been fairly realistic and sober in our thoughts. Quite a few posts along lines of aliens, WW3....

Don't think so.

1.It was highjacked on its last ping while grounded.(or so they belive)
2.It was highjacked in flight by that little old lady in seat 24.
3.It had its comunication highjacked and was ordred to re-route.

The nightmare goes on for so many.

Nothing significantly new this morning. Relatives are threatening to go on hunger strike till they get more info. And saw this also:
"Malaysian Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, who is expected to provide an update on the search at a news conference later, said: "The fact that there was no distress signal, no ransom notes, no parties claiming responsibility, there is always hope."" (yahoo news 18 Mar)

It can´t still be in the air as it would have run out of fuel long ago.
Therefore it must have
a/ Landed somewhere
B/ crashed somewhere
C/ exploded in midair for whatever reason.
Just hope it´s option a/ & everyone is alive even if they are being held hostage.
Going on hunger strike is a bit pointless as the relatives can only be given information whicch is known. In this case, very little.

According to New York Times The turn that diverted the missing plane off its flight path was programmed into the aircraft's computer navigation system,probably by someone in the cockpit

The Daily Mail says Was the co pilots last message a secret distress signal because it wasn't the usual way to sign off

So much talk, expert opinions and speculation but still nothing to give any real clue as to what happened and where the plane and the poor souls who were on board are.

It maybe nothing more than a deeply grieved person who has a score to settle to the Malaysian Govt.

It is a pointless excerise imo to go on hunger stike,of course there will be things that cant be divulged from gathered intelligence and rightly so,,,,,,the Malaysian Govt have if the case be it, the lives of 239 on their hands,,,,,that is paramount above everything,,,,

Of course there will be half baked speculations,its what joe public does,

No one knows,,,,,,,,,,,,only those on that plane,bless them...

Now they are searching off the coast of Western Australia!

Pilots do take minimal luggage - the minimum they need. They would certainly not take their "full life" with them.
It isn't like packing for a holiday. They are going to work and even if they have a stopover they won't take an awful lot with them.

It should also be noted that it has been reported by some media outlets that the pilot was a "fanatical supporter of the country's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim - jailed for homosexuality just hours before the jet disappeared" and that pictures have emerged of him wearing a T-shirt saying "Democracy is Dead".

The day before the plane disappeared, the pilot's wife and three children moved out of the family home.

I havent read all these posts so may be re saying stuff here

It came to light a few days ago that the airline didnt sign up to get access to any "tracking system" that may be on board so if there is something sending signals it cant be found

It was said the company wasnt able to pay for the system

Now where its gone will remain a mystery until found!!

And now the fammilies are on hunger strike until its found ....OMG!

Did find it quite interesting, but doesn't really clarify much - except to tell us that plane did not rise to 80,000 feet and explode and burn up. Had never thought it could.

If negotiations are underway at a remote airstrip (and there are 900 to choose from apparently), it may be that quite a few know what has happened to plane and passengers. And any leaks may put many lives in danger. That perhaps is why we have lost a massive 777, and we are being told virtually nothing. Rollo's post of 17 March was probably best on thread so far.

Until they find a complete aircraft or wreckage then most of what is in the media is "speculation"
