A very succinct post from Dermot, which I would recommend we all observe:

*How often & on what inadequate data do we misjudge one another!*

Spiteful comments? I haven't seen any.

I agree, best not to add anything at all. I SO wish I hadn't :-(

All too silly for my liking :-(

Perhaps those who took this thread off topic topic Barb, will now add there comments in an adult manner then, or better still not add anything at all.

As for it being obvious I don't care, those who know me know differently. I don't care about the naff nor the spiteful comments, but I care passionately about people who I respect. I wouldn't say I was angry either, more miffed about why it is that some people assume I've said something which I haven't, when the words I've written are there for all to see.

Wend Report 16 Jan 2014 21:21

Well Lynda - I think I've commented on your posts in the past and have always found you pleasant and very friendly (apart from one occasion in particular, but that's gone and forgotten as far as I'm concerned.)

Sadly, not the case here - so they're ;-)

PS - I'm not unkind either (I hope!)

:-D

I have read most of your threads since joining and enjoyed them all, though I don't think I have added as a lot are about London of which I have no Knowledge.

I feel you have got angry at some of the replies and although you have made it obvious you dont care about many people and what they have to say, I am sorry the topic couldn't have been discussed in an adult manner.

Out of that hole Kitty, us Grandma's must stick together ;-)

Unkind Wend? Read back over the thread eh, look at the comments, including yours telling me I got a spelling wrong, that's fairly unkind I'd say, and why would I word what I have differently? I say things as they are, was there a spat, yes there was, it's obvious enough to all, with the comments constantly on these boards, have I said what I know about said spat, no I haven't, do most people know what the spat was about, I have no idea.

I don't know about what happens in peoples lives on here, some choose to tell every little detail, real personal stuff, ask around, see who has tried to delve into my life, and when one who did it, was " flavour of the month" there "friends" thought it hilarious, but when they all fell out, different story.

I'm here to do my tree, add the odd comment, or ask for view on something, nothing more. I have no hidden agendas. I don't look at threads I don't enjoy, so maybe whatever goes on I'm oblivious to, but don't suggest I'm unkind just because I tell the truth.

I just wish that when I say something, people don't jump up and down and assume I mean them, I'm not that interested in other peoples lives on here, unless I have an interest in them. It's a website to me, that's all, the friends I have from here I speak to and meet away from GR, others who are acquaintances, I just have a laugh on here with, or we pm each other, all very normal I think.

I do wonder why so many people have added to this thread, who never comment on any thread of mine, I wonder why they felt the need on this thread, again I have no idea, nor do I care.

*Oh and please don't use my threads to have little spats with your ex friends, who you've fallen out with, too much cloak and dagger stuff, which most of us don't want to know I'm not interested, and I should think not many other readers are either.*

That's sheer unkindness Lynda. and potentially very hurtful. Unnecessary, imo
:-(

You could have phrased it in a much more friendly way, tbh.

Or, just ignored it (even better) :-D

I'm amazed that although my opening post is still there, and the words haven't been changed, even my spelling mistakes, this thread has been contrived into making it sound like I put a thread up about spellings, I didn't, READ my posts before you judge what you THINK I've said & other posts of mine, will tell you it is an observation I've made about an ex work colleague who is 50 + who misspells words, like the ones I mention, she doesn't speak like it, so I find it a bit odd that she writes it, as do others, it isn't something I would of imagined her doing. I haven't said the woman is mad, bad or pathetic, but from some of the comments on here, you would think I had, others have commented that they see some of there friends do it, and they are surprised at there friends too.

It has also been suggested, that I am saying that you should all write perfect English, and that all your commas, full stops, etc should be in the right place, I couldn't give a carrot, so please don't even try to suggest that I would even think of commenting on someone's spelling or punctuations, it's insulting, to me, and to those who may read this thread.

Oh and please don't use my threads to have little spats with your ex friends, who you've fallen out with, too much cloak and dagger stuff, which most of us don't want to know I'm not interested, and I should think not many other readers are either.

And for all those who have read the thread properly, and understood what I DID say, just to update you, another friend commented today about my work colleague, and asked if I thought how she wrote was strange, then she wondered why I laughed out loud :-D

Lynda was saying she is seeing grown adults spelling words wrongly on purpose.

I am guilty of doing just that.

I am not ignorant and I received an excellent education. I used that education to " climb the ladder " in my chosen career.

Now I am at that time in my life when I can relax and chat to my cyber friends and have fun. I think I still possess a good sense of humour and I choose to post where I feel happiest.

It's just having a bit of fun away from the normal everyday trials and tribulations.
I am certainly not odd and know what is " proper and improper " when it is called for.

I misspell words all the time because im a very sloppy typer, even worse on my new tablet, I also type in text talk a lot maybe its a generation thing,

I dont mind how anyone spells words as long as I can read or decifer what they say lol, I must add in real life I always write in full with spelling and most grammer correct lol I have to in my line of work

a very frowning stray who has concentrated so hard to type this is full with words spelt correctly ;-)

Rambling

Rambling Report 16 Jan 2014 13:18

I have sat on my hands a lot here lol, but one thing I have noticed lately is a little bit of 'inverted snobbery' coming though, not here specifically but generally.

IE it is rightly considered very wrong to criticise spelling and grammar because the person may have particular reasons for not being good at those things ( dyslexia, poor education, eye sight problems etc). I have not seen anyone here do so.

BUT there is a corresponding tendency to think it is ok to suggest or think that those who CAN do a reasonable job with spelling and grammar are somehow 'privileged' , that they must have had a good education, and/or it comes 'naturally to them'. I feel that is unfair to all the people who work very hard to improve their skills.

Dan is at college, some of the youngsters there are working really hard to improve their English so that they can get to Uni or into work, it just seems a shame to me that if they are seeing deliberate mis-spelling online ( no I know they are unlikely to be on this site, but as a general point) or text speak when someone is not texting, then they will have to work all that much harder to work out what is 'proper English'.
