Lol....here was me thinking the other day that we don't really know much about Dermot but he always seems to be there in the background. methinks he is making up for it now, and very interesting it is too ;-)

I have to say that all your posts are so interesting but now I want to know more.....one of the biggest questions would be Why?..or.....tell me more!

So if anyone wishes to elaborate ...please feel free :-)

It's the quiet ones that are so interesting. Two of the quiet ones have caught my eye. Dermot, who has written an autobiography if he only posts twice more (what on earth are tayto crisps?).

And dear Hayley with her aura. Their modesty shines through every sentence they write.

:-) ;-)

1. I began learning to cycle without stabilisers when I was 5 years old during which time I became well acquainted with every bunch of nettles in the vicinity or thereabouts.

2. My mum & sister caught a fleeting glimpse of Pope John Paul 2nd at Knock, Co Mayo when he made his Papal visit in 1979. It rained most of the day!

3. My dad was James, so was my paternal Grandfather & paternal Great-Grandfather. Lively wits needed when researching the family tree.

4. I’d like to be cremated please - but only after I die. I'm not in any great hurry.

5. We had a working horse on our farm in the 1960s named Dan - a powerful yet gentle pet.

I can read gravestones that are almost smooth.

I can't rivet with a dolly and hammer.

I can wiggle my ears and do my eyebrows like Roger Moore (There's useful!)

My pastry isn't bad.

I can knit.

1. I used to have a disgustingly awful habit of biting my nails till last year. Much pleasure was gained over the years from said activity.

2. I dislike being given vouchers for items or shops irrelevant to my mode of life. (I’ll let John cogitate on this comment for a little while!)

3. I still look forward to relaxing weekends despite being retired for 9 years.

4. I don’t particularly appreciate being asked to house-sit at someone else’s abode for an anticipated parcel delivery - just because I’m readily available & they are at work earning loads of money.

5. I have a reasonably equipped home gym situated in the salubrious garden shed. Free membership.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 30 Nov 2013 15:26

1 I have been retired for only 4 weeks, and already have forgotten what a weekend is.
2. I read everything that Dermot writes, and understand some of it.
3. I am an imam
4. An ancestor married a first cousin of Queen Victoria. Both father of his wife and father of Princess Victoria were Dukes and sons of George III.
5. I can easily understand writing of 18th century, but have no idea how to read a mobile phone txt msg.

Staffs Col

Staffs Col Report 1 Dec 2013 03:11

However number 3 is a minus point. Come on you done number 2 so conquer number 3 - they have stabilisers you know :)

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 1 Dec 2013 16:32

I think you could still win a beauty contest, GiN. :-)

One of the nice things about being a very old man is that you can compliment a girl and she longer thinks you are either 1. insincere or 2. trying it on.

My OH is same as your 2 (except Stage 4 Cervical, which is slightly less fatal than overian). Back in 1983. Fortunately we lived near Addenbrookes where they were pioneering laser treatment. In those days, it was very unlikely anyone would survive at that advanced stage. Now, she is healthy, 60, and looks 15 years younger. Often, I am taken for her father :-(
