Shelley,
For the past couple of days I have been trying to send a message to the Genes Reunited Support Team.
I have not managed to do because your email address [email protected] is not accepting incoming emails. :-0
The link to support on your "Contact" page is broken and shows GR's usual, "Yes we know its broken and we are working on it, Press the logo to go to the homepage." message.:-0
I have even posted a message on the Genes Reunited page on Facebook but got no response.:-0
What is going on and when will normal service be resumed? :-S

Hi Jonesy,
Could you PM me the message which you were trying to send support, and I'll look in to why incoming messages aren't being accepted.

I had this problem starting about 4 yearsago ...............................
any emails sent to GR was immediately bounced back
It didn't matter whether I tried to make contact through this site, or from my home email address
It extended to me being unable to reply to emails sent by GR staff to my home address ...................... even those replies bounced back
I took out a gmail address purely and imply to have contact with GR
This went on for about 2 years
The only explanation that anyone could come up with .................. including GR's technical staff ................... was that someone using the same browser service as I do had been banned by GR's server.
One person being banned had affected everyone using that same server.
Apparently the solution was to unblock that ban :-)
I was rather confused, as I don't think there could be more than a handful of members using the same server as I do
I have to say that it was Estelle who finally got the problem solved

why, oh why, do GR staff not pass on information from year to year???
For the 3rd (or is it 4th) year in a row, GR staff going to WDYTYA have used GR members to help find information, and to promote this site.
For the last 4 years, we, the members who do the work for you, have politely, and not so politely, requested that the GR staff COLLECT THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO DO A GOOD JOB.
Now, there have been several WDYTYALive requests posted today on the Board ............... and most of them are USELESS
They provide NO information to help us find information
For example ..............
"Looking for Patrick George Grant born 1895.
Father - Patrick Henry Grant, corporal coldstream guards.
Married - Isabella Clara Fissenden 1919.
Any information welcome."
Or this one .............
"Looking for Daniel Gorman born 1801 in Ireland.
Married to Margaret Russell from County Down.
Was a surgeon.
Any more information would be useful."
Couldn't GR staff at least have asked WHAT information was being looked for, or what information they had !
WE do not like to waste our time duplicating work already done!
Another request turns out to have originally been asked in 2010, with a lot of information provided then AND asked again by the poster on Military Chat today ...................... duplication upon duplication!
For future reference, could you please, PLEASE, ensure that staff at future exhibitions ask the following questions .....................
where and when was the person born
what is the last reference found for that person
Where has the requester searched
Full names should be given whenever at all possible.
Ask the requester if they have searched on GR before, and if so, could they provide a reference back to it.
I'm sure other members will have other recommendations! 2 hours ago ยท Like

Maybe Shelley could also explain how 'Live' requests are being made days after the show has packed up?
This may not be an issue in future as there may not be a show next year!

I am having problems finding how I can get hold of support regarding tree problems so I will post this here:-
In my tree I have a Mary Gallacher b.1877 - d.1910 who was married to an Allan Stuart Wotherspoon b.1871 - d.1930 which is correct, however for some reason she is also showing as being married to a Robert Simpson Carmidy b.1876 and this is incorrect, Robert Simpson Carmidy was the first husband of Allan Stuart Wotherspoon's second wife Mary Duggan Burns b.1875 - d.1948.
I highlighted in reports to Support on "numerous" occasions during 2013 the problems I was having with the marriage fields and also information not being saved, reports I would add that the only response i received from Support were "we are aware of the problem and are working to rectify it."
Since the fiasco that occurred between Christmas 2012 and Easter 2013 I have lost count of the errors I have discovered in my tree, missing information I can re-enter albeit this has involved my time and meant forking out money, but errors like the above - I have no idea how those can be rectified.
Can you please have someone assist me to rectify this error, and while they are at it, advise when we can have a tree that we know we can rely on to reflect accurately the information entered and saved, because hardly a day passes that I do not find an error, and please note I do not want patronising responses asking, what system and browser I am using, or if I am entering the information correctly - I am very computer literate and have excellent computer skills, the problems are with Genes Reunited not my system or browser and for the record I am using Window 7 Home Edition with Mozilla Fire Fox.

As Joy & Jax have explained. New threads have been started on your WDYTYALive boards. The show closed days before these threads were posted. How come!
Sylvia has also stated very well, the thoughts of many who have looked at the 'Live' requests.
If there ARE further shows then please arrange some training for your staff.

Hi everyone,
The board is called WDYTYA Live as that is the name of the event. New posts have been added since the show ended as we also received paper requests.
The board is still live so that people who have posted (but may not look on a daily basis) can access the responses.

So they can access the responses!!!
Can they reply?
Have they all taken out a free trial to do so? or are they going to contact you to reply further on their behalf?
Hope they havnt been told to pm the members who have tried to help, like they were told a couple of years ago to do

Shelley thanks for that - appreciated as someone really does have to take a serious look at the problems that are occurring on the Genes Reunited Tree.
For example, I have just entered marriage details for a husband and wife on my tree, apart from working my way through the multiple marriage fields that appeared, it took some six attempts at saving the details before they showed in the individuals profile/details on my tree.
Tt is obvious even to a layman, that from various issues members have raised, that the GR Tree has fundamental flaws and cannot be relied on to record information accurately :-(

Thank you Genes team for the free month. Such a pity there was such a low take up this year.
I presume that I will still be renewing at 7 pounds 95 as advised in your reminder last week.
