The heat makes folk do some extraordinary things - have you done anything out of character during this heat wave.

Can't even explain how I ended up buying a carpet shampooer.
Culturally we don't wear shoes in the house so the carpets are not really dirty.
Grandaughter 6, spilt something on the floor which I've not been able to bend down to clean properly. Told her she has to help me next week - summer hols.

Oh nanny she says you need to buy one of those carpet thingi's that have water in. Then it would be easy peasy lemon squeezy. Asked if mummy has one, she said no but if I bought one mummy can borrow it to clean my bedroom.

Saw an advert for a discounted Bissell. Like I was bewitched - ordered it without thinking and it arrive the next day.

Windows wide open - have spent the last 3 hours giving them a once over and the stain disappeared like magic. The carpets look like new and the lovely smell is intoxicating. The exercise has lifted my mood.

Cleaning it is simple - though I was really surprised the colour of the water.

A gizmo I will be definitely using it again - a good buy - why didn't I think of it before. ;-)

I think N/S C/C put a stain on the carpet caused by her g/d fired the urge to by a shampooer......so the weather inspired her to slapsh put on one......... cant think of a better time to buy one,,,,,swish slop windows open and hey presto,,,all refreshed and dry....

Isnt a grubby carpet the reason a carpet shampooer is bought,,,,?

I think your right Kay anyway when the sun is out you tend to see how grubby things can get I've been, in the last 10 days, washing curtains would never wash them in winter now would you did some more this morning plus blinds and had them dry in a couple of hrs. now looking to carpets will be dry in next to no time ...so yes heatwave a good time to clean/wash I would say, of course start early before it get's too warm. :-D

Kay????

Kay???? Report 16 Jul 2013 20:12

Would be suprised how grubby carpets can get with children even not wearing shoes indoors,,,,

spilt drinks etc,a rubbed in bit of chocolate, and nthing worse than juice for staining a brand new carpet,,,,,,from experience,,,,,

To right Nolls,,,,,,,sunshine,,,,makes us women want to get things like curtains, quilts or carpets etc cleaned,,spring cleaning has long been dead,,,,,,, :-D :-D,

My king quilt has been to be washed and stored away now.

Some of my curtains got washed back in May/June ,,,others are dry clean only and was done last year......

Stray Kitten I have a steam cleaner yes it's quite good especially if your not to able to clean floors however with mine (can't remember the name of it :-0) it wasn't a very expensive one but I find the cloth comes off the actual machine after a while it ties on over the steam bit and really annoying in the middle of cleaning and steam puffing out and you have to try and get it back on again. I wonder if there are some that the cloth goes under the fitment that would be much better.

Kay my King quilt is hanging over the bannister waiting to be washed the thought of it though trying to get it over the washing line oh dear. :-D I've washed 5 prs of curtains in the last few days one pair dry clean only had a good look at them and thought they can be washed so gave it a try and they came up beautifully the only thing had to iron them not an easy job on a narrow ironing board and during the heatwave lol

Now Errol why do you think it's necessary to repeat CupCake's opening sentence I didn't think it was that important to merit a second reading (sorry CupCake) ..but perhaps you know otherwise a bit of a waste of time maybe? :-0 :-D

StrayKitten,

I got us one of those steam cleaners in January, an X machine, got it from the web....brilliant.
Not only can you clean the floors, but tiles, sinks and even the cooker, money well spent. :-D :-D

George :-)

Carpets get dirty even when you do not wear shoes in the house.

It is not cultural ............... but almost no Canadians wear outdoor shoes in the house, summer or winter. The same applies to Americans living in the northern states or Alaska

Most of us carry a pair of shoes to change into when we visit, especially in the winter (from October through to March or April), and leave our outdoor shoes just inside the front door. That applies even if we are not wearing boots.

Many of us wear house shoes or slippers in our own homes

Others wear either socks or go in bare feet

Socks and bare feet both transfer sweat and oils from the feet to the carpets ...............

............. so you get sweaty oily odours transferred to the carpets.

I was told by a carpet retailer that bare feet were marginally better than socks in that they transfer slightly less to the carpets than socks that might have been worn for longer than 1 day.

OH and I have traditionally rented a carpet shampooer from our local grocery store, and cleaned the carpets about every year or 18 months.

Last year, we finally bought our own carpet shampooer.

Last month, we used a professional company for the first time .................. they'll get my business next year. It was so easy!!

and of course we are getting older .................. we are after all older than most people on this thread :-D
