wonder how the parents of the two perpertrators feel?

DazedConfused

DazedConfused Report 24 May 2013 15:41

Probably bad as well, especially as they are in all probabilty not Muslims. Both men were converts. Radiliclised (?) when at university.

The are most likely now in hiding and in fear for their safety and that of other family members. It must be awful for them, but in a totally different way than for that of Lee's family.

A tragedy with many far reaching consequences.

I feel we should also spare a thought for the medical staff, doctors and nurses, at the two London hospitals who are charged with the unenviable task of treating the injuries these terrorists sustained during their arrest.
I am sure the medics will carry out their duties in a totally professional way, regardless of personal feelings, as they do with all patients in their care.
Hopefully they will not be subjected to too much abuse while doing the job they are trained to do, until such time as their patients are released into police custody behind bars.

Strange to see venom turned against the true terrorist - obviously me.

If Mersey and PP actually read my post, they would see that I make the point that the suspect said on film something like "women in my land see this sort of thing". And, as he is a British subject born and brought up for much of his life in Lambeth, it follows that the women of Lambeth (or Romford or Spalding) are used to seeing what he did in Woolwich. What he probably meant to say is that women in Iraq and Afghanistan see this sort of thing, but he had never been to those sort of places.

The simple point, as Rose and others saw, was that he is a very confused man talking about "our British troops" and, in the same rant, "women in our land" to refer to somewhere other than Britain.

And for Mersey to take me for task for mentioning religion when both men were brought up in Nigerian Christian families and got radicalised in Islam is a bit rich. The root of the problem lies in these radical clerics - and I do think it is up to the respectable Muslim bodies like the Muslim Council to weed out these clerics who attach themselves to our mosques in Britain

Muffyxx Report 24 May 2013 21:19

All very well weeding them out...but even once they're known about we can't remove them from the country and have to endure years of expense and harassment whilst they make appeal after appeal.......

John your first sentence......would you kindly explain what you mean by this, only so I can carry on with the rest of your response, I need to get this straight first???

Wend Report 24 May 2013 21:31

Venom John? That's a bit strong isn't it?

Pleased to see that you have 'read up' a little more on the tragedy now.

OK, I know I haven't commented myself, but I've been reading this thread and, as well as a few others, OFITG's posts have, as always, echoed all our feelings in an eloquent and intelligent way, in my opinion.

Mersey Report 24 May 2013 21:34

John you are again turning it round to a poor you thread.
I did not take you personally to task for mentioning religion so don't flatter yourself.
Your comment "Strange to see venom turned against the true terrorist - obviously me." is a bit sick too.
And I still say you used quotes out of context.
The proper quote is "I apologise that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you."
Even I can understand what that means.

Sadly we can never remove some of these radical clerics because some are british born and bred, At least one of the men in question "Michael Adebolajo" had contact with a well known radical Anjem Choudary who's views are well documented, How that man has not been locked up is beyond me

First Link I posted on this thread yesterday

I agree Mersey that vile man is obviously brainwashed .....

John can we please have 1 news thread that doesnt end up with you taking it over and causing fallouts, of course you are entitled to an opintion and I am sure some people thinks its valued however, in your earlier post you did assumed, we have talked about this manytimes before , you have more or less decided when and why he turned to Islam ...or assumed not facts . :-D

eRRolSheep Report 24 May 2013 22:05

I agree Mersey.
I hope you have not been upset by any individual's comments whoever they may be and I know that your thoughts are more with anybody genuinely affected by recent events because you have always come across as a caring and thoughtful person rather than someone to enter into a meaningless debate just to score points or appear popular.
Glib comments are immaterial in a tragic, heartrending situation such as this and none of us should lose sight of that fact.

Sorry Hayley. But I posted what I thought was quite a reasonable and thoughtful post on this thread before I went out to work today. I had watched about 6 different you tube videos and had a good idea of what this man actually said. He was an Englishman speaking perfectly good English.

And I have worked quite a bit in Brixton (amongst the African immigrant community) and know exactly what that part of London is like - so was amazed to come back to the computer 10 hours later and be told I was talking that area of London down and was not quoting the knifeman correctly.

And my point about mosques controlling these radical clerics was also made by Cardiff's leading imam today on Jason Mohammed's Radio Wales phone in. We do have an awful lot of problems with this same issue in Cardiff, and the imam said he had studied the Islamic law for 8 years - whereas these radical clerics had often hardly studied the Q'ran at all. The leading radical Muslim cleric in Cardiff, for example, is a trained barrister.

well no way have I watched, or will I watch, any videos of this heinous crime - I can imagine it to a certain extent without actually seeing it - the video should not be available for people to watch - remiiscent of the Romans watching the Christians being slaughtered in the amphitheatre - not to my taste at all

thank you Errol for a measured response <3

AnnC These are videos that have been on the news channels and stills from them in papers. There are a couple of Suspect 1 talking to someone and his rants have been quoted on this thread. One new one I saw today was the first suspect seeing the armed patrol arrive. He rushed at the lady driver and was just shot in time by another police officer before he injured her, or worse. The second suspect ran along the pavement opposite and shot across before he was also taken down.

The film of the shooting was taken from high up in the nearby high rise flats. During the 20 minutes approx whilst waiting for the arrival of the armed response, both suspects had engaged members of the public and tried to justify what they had done.

The body of the soldier was in the middle of the road, heavily pixillated with brave women staying with his body till the armed response arrived.

Very chilling footage. But it was in all papers today (from Mirror to Telegraph) and everyone was looking at the photos, discussing them and trying to work out what possible motives there were. And it goes without saying that everyone is absolutely horrified, and there is an outpouring of grief for the victim and his family.
