Thanks Paula - I was going by a BBC report timed just after 10 PM but they appear to have dropped the quote now. However, I still don't think we should all be speculating at this time.

Porkie_Pie Report 22 May 2013 23:05

Errol, I saw the original video taken at the time by a witness It was first broadcast towards the end of the news so about 6.28 pm if you google you will find it, He spoke very good English

one of the perpetrators clearly stated why they had done it and here is the ITV transcript of that video,

‘I apologise that women had to witness this today. But in our land, our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your governments, they don’t care about you.

‘Do you think David Cameron is going gonna get caught in the street when we start bussing our guns? Do you think your politicians are gonna die? No it’s gonna be the average guys, like you and your children. So get rid of them, tell them to trip our troops back

‘The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying by British soldiers every day. This British soldier is an eye-for-eye, a tooth-for-a-tooth’

Porkie Pie I saw this news item too, one of the men was holding a machete with his hands covered in blood. No need for much speculation.

Paula, You cannot argue when one of the perpetrators states why they did it on camera, including the fact it was a soldier they had targeted, But even terrorists can get it wrong so it may not be a soldier at all, we will see when the deceased identity is confirmed,

RIP who ever you are

Have just watched four separate you tube videos of this atrocity. It is actually very clear what happened. :-0 :-0

Only mystery to me was that one eye witness said that the two suspects were dead. But I believe they were taken to two different hospitals and no word that either has died :-S

It is so terrible that these people claim they are Muslims. It is a peaceful religion (more so than Christianity in many ways) and they are certainly not Muslims. But I do think that true Muslims need to continue to weed these madmen out of their mosques.

I know what I think....BUT....I shall wait for it to be confirmed before I comment further....however...whatever the reasons.....nothing makes this right...nothing at all.

Thinking of this poor soldier and his loved ones.

Evening news just reported it took the police NINE minutes to arrive!

NINE minutes! Surely not?

If so, where were they - and WHY so long a response?

INCREDIBLE - and OUTRAGEOUS indeed - if true!!

AnnCardiff Report 22 May 2013 23:54

thanks Elizabeth - no way would I have wished to cause any controversy over such an appalling situation

my heartfelt sympathy goes to the victim and his loved ones who must be in a living hell at the moment

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 22 May 2013 23:56

I read it was 20 as they were waiting for the armed response unit.

SURELY no one expected unarmed officers to walk into that situation knowing that their presence was going to be these mentalist's swansong???

Clearly they need to firm up their response times ..but thank god no more than necessary were injured than had to be.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of this man who died in such tragic circumstances.

I'll refrain from saying anymore until there are confirmed facts.

Barry_ Report 23 May 2013 00:03

When the constable was hacked to death in 1985 his mates went it to help him as they were - unarmed, as I recall, Muffy!

It's so easy for us to be armchair critics, of course!!

A truly sad day that likely will change many things and thoughts.
Just what these two wanted, seemingly!

What a Wonderful World. NOT!!

RIP, soldier. Condolences to your family, friends and mates.

PC Keith Blakelock.........I'll never forget x

Barry_

Barry_ Report 23 May 2013 00:23

I sat glued to the radio that night for live reports on the situation.
God knows what terror PC Blakelock must have felt, Muffy.

It really doesn't bear thinking about!

I'm sure those responsible are quite happily collecting dole and other allowances today!

So much for real justice.

I always click the news when I first sit down at my computer.

Saw the man with the blood stained hands.

My heart goes out to the family of the soldier. They have enough to deal with, without the media adding to their sadness.

This is all over the news, so WHY did some idiot decide it wasn't suitable for these boards?

Who appointed you as our censor? :-P

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 23 May 2013 03:59

A tragic tragic happening, my thoughts go out to that young man who was killed in such a barbaric way, he must have felt such terror, I hope the first blow did the damage so that he didn't know about the other blows. His family and friends must be devastated and sick to their stomachs to know of the treatment he got. I expect it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There are many questions to be answered, but the words of one of the perpetrators were clear enough to understand.

May that poor lad rest in peace.

My thoughts are with the poor man and his family at this time. Such a harrowing, disturbing attack , very very sad.

No matter what happened or how it happened a man lost his life on the street of Woolwich trying to go along with his everyday life.......A deeply upsetting and shocking time....
