He is 85 years old, and I for one do not blame him for wanting to retire. I hope is left in peace to enjoy whatever it he is planning to do with the rest of his life. |

Wow! That's a sweeping statement Supercrutch and by what authority can you possibly make it? How many priests have you actually met or know? |

One man does not make a religion or institution so i cannot see the next Pope changing anything, |

He could well be Sue..but the cynicism from my point of view lies in the fact that they usually stay pope til they die..serious.illness not being an exception to this...of course it may well be just as they say it is.....who knows !!! |

Make sure we all read the tabloids because they are the only true source of infallibly correct information on this subject. |

Maybe they should make the choosing of the new pope into an X Factor type programme........ :-D :-D |

Well, I think we have to admit that both priests and Archbishops will have more insight into what is going than the average layperson Supercrutch. . |

Hayley, there are a couple of reasons why young men aren't usually chosen - they need to choose a man who has had quite a lot of experience in parochial and diocesan matters, and that can take years. Also, if someone is too young, they could be stuck with him for far too long...... :-D |

I admire the Pope for his announcement. It would be sad to watch him deteriorate like Pope PaulJohn11. |

a selection like they did for Dorothy - Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Graham Norton - now I'm liking that - black/white smoke just doesn't do it for me |
