Thank you Emma for your prayer.

Cynthia. This alphabet is all new to me, I haven't ever come across this before.
I hope the wet room is taking shape and that all will be sorted very soon.

Hoping everyone will enjoy a good weekend. My thoughts and prayers are those who will feel lonely or upset for whatever reason during this coming Sat/Sun. xx

Good morning :-)

At last I feel clean! The wet room is up and running (but not with water I hasten to add) :-D

It's a new experience, but I think it is one which will be most helpful for both of us.

For today:

Lord,
As I face a new day
Let me take your hope
Rising with the dawn.

As I face a new day
Let me feel your love
Dancing through the birdsong.

As I face a new day
Let me see your promises
Glittering through my day.

Lord, as I face a new day
I turn my face to yours
That I may taste, feel and see you today.

Amen to this mornings prayer. That is good news Cynthia that your new wet room is finished and your husband can have his independence and feel safe showering again
It will be a relief to be free from the hammering and banging for the last few days too.

A very wet weekend forecast and its raining heavily now, but on the positive side I think it just saves me from having to water the garden and all the tubs for two days!

Always pray to have eyes that see the best,
A heart that forgives the worst,
A mind that forgets the bad, and
A soul that never loses faith.
Be thankful for what you have,
You'll end up having more.
If you concentrate on what you don't have,
You will never, ever have enough.
(Oprah WInfrey).

Whatever you have planned, I hope you will all enjoy today.
For those who are struggling today, here is a (((hug))) just for you.

Good morning :-)

Today is our church's Walking Day and so there is only one service this morning. It's at 10am and so I won't be able to go because my husband's meds won't have kicked in enough to help. I hope to walk and to take lots of photos for our FB page. :-)

The Collect for today:

Lord,
you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth:
send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts
that most excellent gift of love,
the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you.
Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Dermot Report 14 Jun 2015 12:29

Our local Parish Priest is not known for his memorable sermons but he sometimes uses unusual expressions that make me, for one, go back home to check their meaning.

His 'take away' expression this morning on prayer life - 'We all have a besom of devotion'.

Dermot

Dermot Report 14 Jun 2015 15:59

‘Learning In Ancient Ireland’.

Ailerán was one of the most distinguished Irish scholars at the School of Clonard in the 7th century. Numerous works can be ascribed to him, including the Fourth Life of Saint Patrick, a Latin litany, and the Lives of Saint Brigid & Saint Féichín of Fore.

Ailerán's best known work is his mystical interpretation of the Ancestry of Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to the genealogy of Jesus in Saint Matthew's Gospel.

This was published in the Benedictine edition of the Fathers, and the editors said that they published it although Ailerán was not a Benedictine, because he unfolded the meaning of the Sacred Scripture with so much learning and ingenuity that every student of the Sacred Volume & especially preachers of the Divine Word will regard the publication as most acceptable.

*c&p from the Net & highlighted too in 'The Story of the Irish Race' by Seumas MacManus (1869-1960).

Dermot, your Parish Priest is keen on making you look up meanings to his parting words. I found Isaiah 14 v 23 King James Version which states:-

I will also make it a possession for the bittern and pools of water:and I will
sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of Hosts........ nothing about
the besom of devotion?

A very wet weekend indeed generally, I hope that Cynthia's church walk went well.

Good morning :-)

'A besom of devotion' ? Well, on googling, the only reference I can find is one related to
“Stories and songs from Irish manuscripts: VI. Colcu ua Duinechda's Scúap Chrábaid, or Besom of Devotion” Otia Merseiana 2 (1900–1901).
Maybe it is something that your priest is very familiar with Dermot :-)

Our Walking Day was blessed with dry weather....it was overcast but perfect for walking thank goodness. There were 3 churches involved and the procession was very large, with many watching from the side. Some older folk even brought out chairs to sit and watch us go by. A good walk of witness indeed.

For today :

Today I will remember to put you before all things.

Lord before tiredness - you are energy
Lord before stress - you are peace
Lord before need - you are the gift
Lord before decisions - you are truth
Lord before toil - you are rest.

Today I will remember to put your energy, your peace, your gift, your truth and your rest before my working day.
That I may go not in my own strength but be led by your Spirit.

Amen.

Monday now and the start of another new week ahead. After two days of almost continual rain, today is bright and dry and sunny....... a true blessing indeed.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for fresh grace and a week full of promise.
Lead me in Your ways and fill my heart with Your love and joy.
Help me to see others as You see them.
Guide every decision, response, effort and conversation
That I have for Your glory Amen.

Good morning :-)

Shower chair and grab handles duly delivered and installed yesterday. I think my husband will now feel much safer and independent during his ablutions :-)

For today:

New Day

This is the beginning of a New Day.
God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or grow in its light and be of service to others.
But what I do with this day is important because I have exchanged a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever.
I hope I will not regret the price I paid for it.

Amen.

Love to all.... Cx :-)

Hello All

Cynthia, I agree with Emma that it's good to know your husband is able to become much more independent with the alterations and adaptations all in place now.

Today it is a beautiful day with sunshine and a warm breeze making it very pleasant.
The bonus is that all my washing has dried quickly too.

May the long time sun
Shine upon you,
All love surround you, and
The pure light within you
Guide your day on.

Good morning :-)

All is going well in the wet room department as we get used to the new arrangement. Just think, no more cleaning of baths........ :-D

For today:

Lord in the silence of this new day,
I ask you peace, wisdom and strength.

Today I want to look at the world with eyes of love.
Help me to be patient, understanding,
humble, gentle and good.

Please let me see others as you see them,
that I may look past appearances,
and appreciate the goodness in everyone.

Close my ears to all of the gossip,
and save my tongue from speaking evil of others.
Please let only thoughts that bless remain in me.

Today I want to be well-intentioned and fair,
that everybody that who comes to me might feel your presence.

Father, clothe me in your kindness,
that throughout this day I might be a reflection of you.

Amen.

Good to know that the wet room is helping to make life a little easier now Cynthia.

A Wednesday Blessing to share with you all.

God is in every tomorrow,
Therefore live for today,
Certain of finding at sunrise
Guidance and Strength for the way;
Power for each moment of weakness;
Hope for each moment of pain;
Comfort for every sorrow;
Sunshine and Joy after rain.

Today will never come again. Let it be a blessing. Be a friend and
give encouragement to someone around you. Take the time to care today.

Thinking of all who are anxiously awaiting hospital test results just now. xx

Thank you for those words kandj.......... <3

To encourage folk through the day............
May you find a gift this morning
Laid out for you in the sky.
A beautiful reminder
That sets your hope in flight.

May you notice birds above you
That soar and ride the winds.
And know that as you lift your prayer
God lifts your heart and sings.

May you hear the sweet birds chirping
May you smell the fresh cool air
And know that God's love is all around
Holding you so dear.

May this day be like a present
That fills your heart with awe
And takes your world from grey to gold
And soothes your very soul.

I haven't been on the site for a few days so I have just been catching up. Interesting reading as always. Thank you for all the posts.

I am so glad your wet room is sorted Cynthia. It will help your husband keep a bit of independence.

We have had friends to stay for a couple of days and it has reminded me what a blessing friendship is. I was at primary school with the female half of the couple so we have been friends for a very long while.

Yesterday we went to my aunt's funeral. There was of course some sadness but in many ways it was a joyous occasion and afterwards we spent some time looking together at photo albums and sharing our memories. RIP Aunty.

Thinking today of all who are lonely and do not know the joy of a supportive family and good friends.

kandj

kandj Report 18 Jun 2015 16:52

My sympathy Vera to you and your family on losing your Aunt. I agree that family and friends are a true blessing, but sadly not everyone can enjoy this close love.

It has reminded me that very many years ago I read a quote that people come into your life for a Reason, a Season or a Lifetime Not sure if you are familiar with these words but I really think that they are worth sharing with everyone on here today.

Quote:
People come into your life for a REASON, a SEASON or a LIFETIME..
When you know which one it is, then you will know what to do for that person.

When someone comes into your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They may seem like a Godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason that you need them to be.
Then without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will also do or say something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and
force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their
work is done. The prayer that you sent up is answered and it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real........but only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person and put what lesson you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

"I get by with a little help from my friends" (the Beatles)

Remembering in prayer all grieving the loss of a loved one.
(Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted).
Matthew 5 v 44.

Good morning :-)

It sounds as though your aunt had a fitting farewell Vera and it must have been good to share happy memories with other family members.

The news from America with the shooting of those 9 people, is sad indeed. We pray for the victims and their families. It was uplifting to hear how family members are coping with this tragedy.......families of faith who, despite their despair, are willing to forgive. God bless them.

I ask you peace, wisdom and strength.

Hello All

Today I am thinking particularly of lovely DIZZI who had lots of news to share on the General Chat thread. It is DIZZI's funeral today and I am remembering how brave she was and an inspiration to many throughout her years of illness. Thinking also of her family and close friends as they gather to say their personal goodbye to her today.

Rest In Peace lovely Dizzi......... Heaven is now your new home. xx
