Wend

Wend Report 7 Nov 2012 20:43

I have a very painful back problem at the moment and have been taking strong painkillers. Trouble is, they have an distressing side effect - won't go into detail, but some of you may know what I mean and empathise.

The above don't seem to do the trick, neither did the prunes I found in a tin marked 'Best before end of June 2007' at the back of my fruit tins shelf. They tasted delicious and I did, as I always used to at school, do the 'Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor' etc. and ended up a beggarman as usual.

Begging advice please. Thanks in constipation, sorry, anticipation :-D

Oh gosh Wend, that is so uncomfortable :-(

Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and try cooked frozen peas which are full of fiber. figs and All bran are also helpful.

Teresa :-D

You have my sympathy, Wend.
I've never suffered from 'proper' constipation.
However, when I lived in Shetland and felt like a good 'clear out' I'd empty the bucket with a seat that we called the loo, put Jeyes fluid in it, followed by a full kettle of boiling water and sit on it!!
The steam had a lovely loosening effect ;-)

Bit of a bum wrap for you Wend

OH takes a lot of pain killers and continuous antibiotics and he ended up the same.

Tried all sortd to help but in the end spoke to Doc and was prescribed a Lax. Takes a sachet with water every night at bedtime and does the "trick " every morning.

He also eats plenty of fruit mostly oranges

Hope you feel better soon

:-) :-)

Make a good old fashioned stew with lots of onions, by b.i.l & I both swear by that remedy.

Also try not to worry about it too much as that can add to the problem.

Best wishes :-)

Two SEN*COT at bedtime
plenty of warm water or hot tea next morning.
Don't force it.

My OH has a back problem and if it plays up he has to have painkillers with codeine in. This causes this problem, he was told to take Senokot.

He now takes a Senokot if he ends up taking more than 3 codeine based painkillers.

This now does the trick.

Good luck :-)

Sugar free sweets and dried apricots are what I make the old man have when he thinks he ought to have laxatives.

Sugar free sweets can be very effective quite quickly.

Allbran and figs :-D A tip I was given ages ago is....sit on the loo, raise your knees as high as you can while keeping your balance...oh yes and play some soothing music....and then you blow gently as if you are blowing up a baloon. Never fails :-D :-D :-D <3

Work it out with paper and pencil.

I think it's the sorbitol in sugar-free sweets that has the effect, also in sugar-free jellies I think - my auntie used to get them for her diabetic OH and always complained that they 'griped' her... :-S

Coffee can have an effect, but depends on the brand and the strength!

Before being let loose on my poor old dad I practicrd on the poor old dad of a friend. He had short-term memory problems and the obligatory obsession with his bum.

Although we knew he had not long delivered the goods he was adament that he had not been for a fortnight and needed strong medication at once.

The doctor did have him on Fibagel but he wanted more. So,we gave him more.
We gave him two Fibagel pills with a glass of water on demand and told him not to bite them because he wouldn't like what was in the middle.

I can tell you that Fibagel pills are marvelous and moved him like nothing else.

Don't go looking for them in the pharmacy. You buy them in the newsagents or sweet shop in a packet labelled Tic-Tacs.
