I think Darcey Bussell must have seen the Strictly thread, as she has stopped saying "yah" after every sentence. |

Just to say that I didn't take Paula's post as being aimed at the boards but assumed she was generalising. Knowing she was new I realised that she had not been here long enough to criticize spelling. I often have to go back and correct spelling errors because I don't touch type and my fingers often don't hit the keys in the right order or hit the wrong keys. Always in a hurry I sometimes forget to check my posts before submitting them. Having A level English, achieved way after I left school I always annoy myself when I make errors. :-) |

Unlike Ann, I am a touch typist, but I find my fingers go so fast and sometimes one hand is faster than the other so I finish up with letters transposed. Added to that, the keys on the computer are smaller and closer together than the old typewriters and I sometimes hit two keys at once. I dont hit the preview key but scan over what I have typed in this box, but sometimes miss an error I have made and if I notice it on the board later I edit it but I dont always notice it. |

I actually meant the preview button, not key. I have just noticed (been out for the last few hours). :-0 |

I wonder how some people felt in days gone by when the young people talked of the 'cubbard' instead of the 'cup board', or 'one a clock' instead of 'one of the clock'. |

It annoys me when I see official documents littered with mistakes. Last week I read a one page letter from the Careers Service in which I counted nine errors. |

Then of course you have to make allowances for "Local Dialects" which are used in different ways to describe or say things. :-D |

One of my pet hates is 'different to'. Nobody says 'similar from'. Different means unlike, which to me indicates apart. Therefore it should be different from. I think we were taught that at school. |

I winced a bit today listening to the news on the car radio. The presenter said 'rooves' instead of 'roofs'. I wondered if that was how it was spelt in what they were reading or whether that was correct and they thought they knew better and changed it as they read it. :-S |
