PPal, I looked at the site Muffy gave. Not allowed to download from that if you're not in the UK.

I sent an email to Amazon, they have given me a website.

Booklet? I didn't get a booklet with mine. Only a small thing with a diagram of where the buttons were; it wasn't much use - first thing is to use the slider and that wasn't on the ****** diagram! Took me a minute or so to find it.

I've finished a book, OH wants to read it. I have NO idea how to get it back to page 1. Like I said, I have NO instruction booklet. There are some instructions on the Kindle, but no hint as where I should look - I'll have to go page by page by page.

Very frustrating.

Kindle Users Guide

http://kindle.s3.amazonaws.com/Kindle_User%27s_Guide_English.pdf

As it's .com, you ought to be able to access it - then print it off.

If you want to go back to the beginning first open up the finished book - then press the 'line of text' icon (don't know its proper name!), the one next to the Home symbol.

Select 'Go to' then you have a choice - table of contents, beginning, cover, end, location.

I don't think its in the booklet - its all trial and error ;-)

I didn't have any instructions with mine either but just sat and played about for a couple of weeks.

i move my books into a separate list once I've finished them so I don't get muddled up over what I've read and what I haven't.

My mum calls me over to move hers as she can't get the hang of that bit....it's all trial and error though I've found x

Muffy didn't know you could do that, would
like to put mine on a separate list, can you
tell me how please.

if you see up at the top line it says showing however many items you have on your kindle then on the right it says by collection.

use the right arrow on the curser to go sideways and there it gives you the option of creating a new collection. Give it a name then go back to the home page.

then...go to the book you want to move use the right hand curser again and you can then put it into the new collection.

Hope that makes sense? x

****make sure that the thick black line is underneath whatever you want to move or under the by collections bit at the beginning. Use the up and down curser to get the line under it.

That's where mum keeps going wrong with it x

I've worked out how to get to page one of a book.

I ordered some books last night.

My account showed they are on my Kindle. They're not!

I contacted Amazon & asked for help. Got a VERY techy reply, understood about half of it. Did what they suggested, again got the message that the books are on my Kindle. They're not!

Tried another way, sent them to my computer & used the usb to transfer them to the Kindle. Message said they were sent. They're not on my computer.

I'm getting very frustrated.

At least I've got one book at page one, I can read that again lol :-D

You need to switch on your Wireless to allow them to download.

Check on 'Archived' items. Large volumes and talking books need you to have WiFi connection.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Jul 2012 10:23

As Berona says, if you have the 3G you need to go to menu and turn on your Wireless (don't forget to turn it off again later). Wait a few seconds and check that the signal is strong. When it is, the books should download immediately. If you don't have a 3G you do have to download via your computer because you won't have wireless.

Just check that you have good battery life left. If its about to need to be charged, the download may fail because of that.

Didn't Scozz say earlier that she is on dial-up and doesn't have wi-fi? How did you get the book you are sharing with OH to download?

LadyScozz Report 1 Jul 2012 12:16

I'm pooped!

I had a very frustrating afternoon, trying (again) to download the books I ordered yesterday.

No joy.

So I contacted Amazon and they telephoned me.

On the phone for two hours!! Tried everything. The Help guy was getting as frustrated as I was!

The little black columns that show the wireless connection were either not blacking up or just the first (little) one was going black.

Walked all over the house with it, not much difference. So walked to the top of the driveway (we have a long, very steep driveway).

At the top of the driveway, all the columns went black. One by one, the books came in!

So it looks like I can order books, then have to go for a walk to let them get in the Kindle.

Det - I'm in Broadband. I got the Kindle this week! OH will read the book on my Kindle (when he can get his hands on it, I've got four new books to read). The battery is fully charged..... amend that....... it WAS fully charged, but after a two hour marathon, trying all sorts of things, it might be slightly tired.

Very frustrating!

It was recommended I get a wireless router....... have to go shopping again.

Life was so much simpler with paper lol

LOL, sorry for laughing Scozz, but have vision of you walking up hill
and down dale with Kindle in hand shouting "come in now your times
up"
Once you buy a router life should be soooo easy. :-)

Btw....forgot to say....I headed over here specifically to see how you were getting on with your kindle today..........I also laughed at the vision of you waving your kindle about trying to get a signal...but totally understand your frustration.

Thank you for making me smile :-D

lol Nice to know I can make people laugh :-D

Need another laugh? I'm half deaf, and the 'phone line was really bad, so you can imagine what the conversation was like........ pardon? can you repeat that please? Sorry, I can't hear you.

I'm so pooped I'm going to bed earlyish (it's 9.45pm).... to read :-D

I can imagine me driving all over town in future, trying to get a signal. We live in a small town, but we're not exactly in the backend of nowhere.

I found out something about the Kindle today.

I took it out with me, cos a friend wanted to see it, and gave him info about it.

Then I went shopping.

On the way out of the shops, I set off the alarms! In two stores.

I was asked if I had any electric device with me.... yes, a Kindle... blank look... an electronic book.... blank look....... got it out of my bag......... meanwhiile, loads of people staring at me, thinking I'm a shoplifter!

AnninGlos Report 3 Jul 2012 09:54

I did have a problem with the signal in the Lake District, we were in a wooded valley by a river. But the problem only seemed to be at night, I also had a problem downloading at night in Tenerife. Next morning on both occasions it downloaded immediately.

Thanks for the warning re the shop alarm I didn't realise that.

I have been lucky with my Kindle as daughter had hers first and ironed out any problems, she has then guided me through the difficult bits. She also set both our kindles up to share books so we get twice as much for our money. :-)

slightly off to a tangent - has anyone had much success using the browser function? its under 'experimental'.

I can't get the manually enlarged font size to hold. I'd been trying to log on to this site and presumable used the wrong password. It defaults back to teeny-tiny :-0
