OK Folks its here and its a copy:((((

Its on a brand new canvas and not done very well either:(( the painting itself is ok. l may still get the local antique shop to look at it, but doubt they know anything about Meninsky anyways!!

l was warned and l was suspicious :(

l will let him know but l know l won't get my money back, a lesson learned hopefully!!

jude :-( :-P

That's a shame Jude, I feared as much I asked the seller if he could let me have a photo of the back of the Munsch he was selling so I would know how much canvas was 'spare' for framing... ...and strangely enough he was "away from home" and unable to oblige lol. I dropped a mention that I was more of an Alma Tadema fan... just to see if one of those suddenly appeared ;-)

Jude

Just read the last few posts to this thread.
I do hope you are not too disappointed.
Do you think you got value for your money?

Peter :-)

Make sure you give negative feed back. As you were suspicious I doubt if you are too disappointed as you guessed it would probably be a copy. But if you give negative feedback it will prevent others being caught out.

Wow Lindsey you are so talented. I hope that you are selling them. I love the portrait of the young girl with her hair tied back and the one of the backview ladies in the sea

Well done to you

Most are sold , mainly to men.I wish i had taken better photos ,I like people to look and smile ,I so love what I do but admire other painters who do what I can't.

enjoy your new picture, maybe the real one will surface!

Hi Jude

You said "It would be worth it if l really liked it and wanted it on the wall, but l'm not sure about it."

This suggests to me that you gambled when you bought it ....
Maybe you don't really want it on the wall, but I bet you want to keep it.......

Peter ;-)

Hello Peter....

Sadly l don't actually want it and l know l gambled....but hey ho:(((( silly me!!

l have just been looking at the sellers feed back and a few more are saying "Obvious copy".....so l have emailed him my thoughts!! Not asking for my money back or anything it was my fault l fell for it....but just want him to know!!

More of yours please:)

Jude

You seem to be taking it well - no point in crying over spilt milk (have I spent 'spilt' wrong?)

You are right to contact the person concerned, but don't be surprised if the response is a bit negative.
I would imagine you could also contact 'e-bay', but as I know nothing about e-bay I don't know what the 'rules' are - if indeed there are rules.

Will speak to you again.

Peter

Rather interesting that a Whistler sold by him, and prompting a negative comment has a photo of the back.... old tacks and an oldish frame...but very obviously cobbled together.

Jude,

I just thought I'd mention another Art naughty - promise I'm not a cyber cop - I spend some time on Facebook as I'm interested both in Family and Art, and FB is a great place to see both.

Recently I saw a picture that was very familiar to me - an image that was instantly recognizable, I was sure I saw it when it was first posted last year and remember making a comment to the Artist about it (because I thought it was good).
Well to cut a long story short the same image by another 'artist' came to my notice, it was well executed and was offered in two slightly different versions. This was an artist working in Rome with a lot of work for sale on-line.
I think she copied the original 'idea' from the one I first saw last year. I have sent a message to the original Artist (in Milton Keynes) but he has not responded.
It is accepted in polite circles to always give credit to the original artist if you either do a straight copy or use the 'idea' - 'in the style of' is often used to cover this.

What should never happen is a copy of the Artists signature.

I wonder if my Milton Keynes man copied the Rome artist!
