Whaaa - Sheila 'in certain circles'????? I didn't know there was a 'Shelah' in the Bible, I would assume it was pronounced 'Shella' or 'Sheee-laaah', but who knows :-D

I saw an essay by a victorian chappy on the song of songs. You would think it had been written by John Cleese. It is rather full of euphemisms, but I suppose it's pretty obvious what its all about! One of the few bits of the bible praising women, so it's got to be good. I'm all in favour of that!

Yeah, you dont hear many people called Er nowadays. Sheila, yes, in certain circles but poor old onan, who was quite a decent chappy I thought, gets all the bad press. I personally thought Judah deserved a slap for telling him to...his brothers wife as well. Tsk, such morals in those days. And then for god to kill him because he wouldn't....well, a fine example for children! And to think that it led to the infamous Casti Connubii. A good example of refuting the christians point that the old testament shouldnt be taken literally, which is sort of the point of this post in the first place :-)

I am nearly swayed by your Enid Blyton argument and I'd be fully won over if there was at least a fight or a beheading somewhere, but the action is a bit thin on the ground. Now what was that damned dog called again?

Edit: How funny is this, regardless of your religion :-)

Well, I did say 'nearly' you notice! We do have a backup plan as you well know.

What's a 'flithy' meaning when it's at home......? Filthy meaning I understand but flithy? Nah.....not flithy reading in my book anyway.

Hmmm. Genesis 38.9 - tricky one if you belong to a certain persuasion. I just wonder about a father who would name his sons Er, Onan and Shelah. Er wouldn't last anytime on 'Just a minute' would he??

Not a big Roald Dahl fan myself.........but I will accept that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has its good points. Personally, I am all for Enid Blyton's Famous Five.......why......I can taste those tomato sandwiches now......ummmmm.

Till next time....Cx.

Yeah, there was loads of it about. Have you not seen 'Life of Brian'?

AC/DC were an Irish Folk Band famous for backing Daniel O'Donnel. I think. Might have to get back to you on that one.

Nearly ran out of wine? I mean, you are really opening the door for me here, aren't you. But I will refrain from the obvious!

The song of songs is just an allegory given a flithy meaning by people like me, isn't it? Thats what I heard, anyway :-)

I was just warming up.....now, I particularly like genesis 38:9, which gives me a warm feeling when I think of all the aids victims in africa who may be alive if condoms didn't make baby jesus cry..........ok, that was in bad taste, sorry. I won't mention it again. :-)

David and Goliath is one of my favourite stories ever. Almost as good as the Epic of GIlgamesh, but not as old. But neither of them are as good as The Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl. Now that was a life changing book.

Feet up at last!

Had a look at said article and very interesting it was too.....especially about the intense communal dancing all through the night. Brought back memories that did. Couldn't do it now though....you know, what with my bad back and everything. Dancing round a hand bag doesn't do it for me anymore :-(

Hope you had a good lunch and didn't imbibe too much of the vintage stuff. Bet your place didn't run out of plonk as ours did. I mean, can you imagine it, all these people and only just enough wine to go round. Dear oh dear, what are things coming to I ask myself - can't understand it when we are so used to catering for large numbers.

I think you're going to have to read a bit more of this 'ere book Eldrick - you've missed out one heck of a lot of blood and gore from it.......not to mention the wars, sex, incest etc. which is all there. I mean, not that I'm a prude or anything, but the Song of Songs really shouldn't be read until after 9pm in my opinion and only then in a darkened room.

Very surprised you missed out the story of David and Goliath.....mind you, you, you probably needed that like a hole in the head!

See you soon..... Cx

Well I am not sure I understood all of it, brain not working as well as it might I think, but that is a very interesting and thought provoking article so thanks for that.

This is an interesting piece, all makes sense and seems to fit in with natural selection. I know religious apologists will dismiss it, but it actually doesn't harm their case at all.

The god gene explained.
