It's back!

A post of Suzanne's was RR'd - something about John Bishop

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 22 Mar 2012 22:56

I don't think that was our mystery RR-er...we both put a thread up at the same time, it'll be some busy body reporting a duplicate thread, even though yours was up just before mine.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 22 Mar 2012 22:52

mildred,
just put up a thread about my love of JOHN bishop. the comedian.
its been RRD. so the phantom is stil around,so GR have not eradicated the problem have they.just lying low for a few days.how the hell does my post breach T&C ? :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2012 20:37

Mildred ... sent you a pm

Meanwhile .................................

I have had a thread re-instated :-0 :-0

Phil sent me a pm 2 or 3 weeks ago asking did I still want this thread re-instated.

As it happened, it wasn't the title of the thread that I'm expecting to be re-instated, but I said yes.

He's done it today ...............

.................... I honestly did not even notice that this thread had gone :-0

It's on Suggestions, problems with the Message Centre!

I'm flabberghasted!

"Dont be hoodwinked by Sylvia for this person is the one who reported my posts, how do i know this the help desk told me."

I don't need to second guess who that is, I'd recognise that a mile off

Funny that, someone popped straight into my thoughts after I read that too lol ! :-D ;-) :-D ;-) :-D

Susan

I have not received any email concerning any thread or posts of mine that have been removed over the last 6 months or so .......... and I was one of the ones who "lost" several posts on either Find Ancestors or Genealogical Chat last fall.

so GR have not been sending out emails fro quite some time ...... or at least, not sending them out to everyone

so you are not alone :-D

Hmmm!

*only removed if they have been deemed to breach the terms and conditions, if not they are added back to the thread.*

Well, my whole thread was deleted and never put back.....On top of this, I did not at any time have an email refering to deleted posts or thread.....Now why would that be I wonder. There was nothing whatsoever on that thread that breached T&Cs. ...unless feeling sick with over eating chocolate is against the rules.

TeresaW Report 22 Mar 2012 00:17

I won't name, I could be wrong, and happy to admit if I was. Lets just say nothing you've said makes me think I'm wrong :-D

But to say they had been told who reported, that's a crock...GR won't even discuss which post and why, let along who, even with the individual whose post was reported!

Anyway, let's hope they seriously do consider removing the RR from free members, I'm sure that will solve 90% of the problem. Banning an IP will also help, especially with those using more than one account, though mobile technology might foil that...though I'm sure some things are more traceable than we think.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2012 00:08

not sure you do, Teresa

it was a male, and a fairly new poster.

does that fit??

The person who reported my post in retaliation because he thought I had RR'd his thread also contacted a friend to warn her away from me.

In the first of those pms, he said .......

"Dont be hoodwinked by Sylvia for this person is the one who reported my posts, how do i know this the help desk told me."

................ he then went ahead and reported me

Now ....... the fact is that he told porkies, because the Help Desk does NOT give out this sort of information.

BUT this is what is likely to happen if the name of the RR'er is revealed.

All that will happen is that many of us will NOT report posts that should be reported (abuse, discrimination) in fear of what will happen in retaliation.

I might stop the number of post RR threads Ron, but these will only be replaced by an equal number of 'you did it you ****' threads :-D

Scozzie, that's similar to the reply I got, with the addition that they are definitely going to look into allowing only paying members to RR, as I'd suggested. It doesn't mean they WILL do it, but there's definitely a strong case for it now.

The point re the internet cafe/mobile phone/floating wifi is a very valid concern.

Determined trolls will get back in somehow.

If somebody was RR'ing for a real reason I don't see the harm in showing the name, if it's for a truthful reason, But if it's somebody going about RR'ing just to be a pain in the neck then it would show who the pain in neck was & stop all the guess who is RR'ing threads being put up & can be dealt with quickly in right manner.

The reply I received -

We are aware that a member has been mutiple reporting postings on the site, I can confirm that this member has been removed and banned from using the Genes Reunited website. I can understand that this does cause a lot of upset and as soon as we are aware of this happening we do try to deal with it as quickly as possible. As I have previously advised the postings are looked at and only removed if they have been deemed to breach the terms and conditions, if not they are added back to the thread.

Until the eejit goes to an internet cafe.........wherever.

This will only work if only paying members can RR.

Oh dear. The idea of posting the RR's name is a bit scary......... naming & shaming, or starting a war? Will we need flack jackets? :-|
