I did'nt see the programme but I heard about it, the irish goverment should sieze the houses like the councils can over here if they have not been lived in for a long time.

Rita, I saw that program you mentioned, the houses were all large as well and looked very nice.

They may well come to some grass near any one of us BUT, because of this ruling, they will not be able to stay there for a very long time and then claim they need to live there permanently.

I reckon they are all choked that total news coverage is on Libya and not them :-D

I suppose they could always toss them in a pond or river and let the water dilute the concrete might take a while but at least they would get a good wash,(Unless of course the `water was too deep. :-S :-D

They,re here because the Irish Goverment are glad to see the back of them.There was some talk a few weeks ago that these "Travelers?????? offered to go if Basildon Council paid them about £6million. also I think that as they have houses in Ireland Basildo Council should get a Legal charge on them to help cover the costs so far incured.**M**.

Not me but it does not surprise. Last night on Newsnight Jeremy Paxman had the MP for Basildon and a spokeswoman form U.N. (strange I detected a southern irish accent) and she talked over them constantly.
Interference with their traditional way of life - (I thought that was travelling - not static). Would not accept the M.P.s statement that they had been offered brick housing or empty sites elsewhere in the country - neither of which they would accept and that for 10 years the Council had been trying to find a solution. She was insisting it was racist. M.P. pointed out that if it had been a single or smaller group of non-travellers they would have been off a lot sooner - that it was a planning law not racial.

No one will be homeless just a place to park their home and be legal....

Yes fences were broken down illegally as they were the property of the legal land owners who bought the land in the first place..

I wonder if those who were living there quietly and legally actually wanted the others to live there ir if they were co-erced into taking them in.

The legal ones would not have wanted trouble.They are settled and keeping a low profile so as to fit in and earn a living as static dwellers.

Just watching the eviction of Dale Farm. Looks like all the activists have been removed. Now for the illegal residents and goodness knows what they are going to do. What a debacle. I hope lessons will be learned from this. Where will they go. Not very nice to see anyone homeless. Maybe it's about time Ireland took some responsibility for their travelling community and too provided sites for them.

iv read somwere tht some of the travellers are embarased at how the activists acted yesterday, of course some agreed wiht there actions tho x

I wonder if the travellers even want the activists there. They are doing nothing for their case.
