Jim was a facebook friend of mine, Kay. His brother posted on there to let us know, would it be appropriate for me to C & P this in a FB message, do you think?

Would it be possible to get this thread to the family for them to read when ready how much "their lovely" Jim was regarded by many fellow members.

Rest in Peace dear Grampa Jim - a real gentleman.

I have had the pleasure of meeting him at Exeter meets and I was only enquiring 3 or 4 weeks ago whether he had been informed about this years meet. I was told that he couldn't come because of a bad foot, so his death has come as a real shock to me.

I shall treasure our chats and the lovely photo I have of you from one of the meets.

Very sad to hear about Jim or "Jim on the Solent " as he was known in the early days. He always loved to arrange a meet somewhere.

Condolences to his friends and family,

Thank you, Kay.

I am sad that Grampa Jim is no longer with us, and send my condolences to his family.

Jim was in this site from when it was Genes Connected. I met him twice at meets, at one in Portsmouth and another in Poole; he kindly gave me a lift to the latter. He had a lovely sense of humour and was a warm human being.

Missing you, Jim. Rest in peace.

Feel this needs a nudge up the board

A lot of the "older" members, not in terms of age but in membership, must remember Jim

I am shocked and sad to read this news.
I met Jim at a couple of meets, in Winchester and Whippingham, nr. Cowes and we from time to time would compare notes by e mail incase research had unearthed a link between our families on the Isle of Wight who shared a surname.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in peace Jim.

A truly fine man.

Jim had a wonderfully refreshing sense of humour and an admirably relaxed approach on the boards. I shall always be in his debt for the help he gave me in my fledgling days of family history research.

And I well remember his often steadying hand upon my sometimes irritable shoulders.

It is one of my true regrets that I never got to meet him in real life. But one day we shall meet. And when we do …………. the honour will be all mine.

I am so sad to read this, a lovely man who we both met at Droitwich and, he helped me a lot with my research in Gosport. Straight talking but with a great sense of humour too. Condolences from myself and Tony to Jim's family. Rest in peace Jim.

We are losing too many old friends.
