I must take issue here, Hayley is not ancient! She is a pretty, lively lady who doesnt look much older than thirty to me.
Mick, not much i dont remember about goat-keeping. Used to milk three before i went to work in the morning. Mischeivious , funny and playful creatures that they are. If you like them, I know I would like meeting you!

maxiMary Report 13 Sep 2011 16:44

This is a lovely, fascinating thread. I have been in contact with lots of GR folks, but only met one face-to-face, which was a lovely experience (Hi,Carole) in Niagara Falls.
I am Mary, age 67 (in spots - much younger in others LOL). Been married twice, the first lasted 16 years to the day and basically happened because of differing coping skills r/t 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy, each with special needs. I will always care about their father. Second marriage was supposed to help the kids and me - but didn't work out that way - 2 step-daughters from that relationship. Lasted 10 years technically but . . . enough said.
I retired last year as a Registered nurse after 43 years working in varied areas of nursing. Premature babies, obstetrics, gynaecology, floating to all depts, office nursing, orthopaedics and finally geriatrics, one of my reasons for leaving after 22 years was that I felt I was fitting in too well and expected to be offered a bed before long. LOL.
I love creative cooking (a polite way of saying "clean out the frig"), baking, reading, family history and knitting - currently working on a carpenter clown pattern from the Jean Greenhowe collection.
My 2 daughters live with me, M is gently challenged and C is divorced and mother to 4 children, all of whom also live with us. The children range from 10 to 14 y/o and two have aautism and seizures. They add what might be called spice to my life LOL. Then there are the animals , as if it wasn't already a zoo of sorts LOL. Two large labradoodles who are autism service dogs, one rambunctious year-old American eskimo crossed with Australian blue heeler, plus a black cat and some fish.
I was born in Cardiff but live in Canada, having emigrated with my parents and brother at the age of 7 yrs.
I have been working on my family tree since 1973, some lines are so much easier than others!! Fortunately for me, my grandmother was also very interested in her family tree and left behind loads of notes to start me off - or to confuse me!!.
Pleasure to meet you all.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 13 Sep 2011 13:01

I'm Jill

I was born and raised in London (mainly saaf east) but now live in Kent.

Was married once - have one son.

Now live with Mr Grumpy. He's not so bad - he does most of the cooking (and shopping and housework). I work full time; he is "retired". When it's my turn to cook we have beans on toast or we go out to eat.

I am younger than Hayley and Mick - who are both such fibbers! I am 54. Hayley is ANCIENT and Mick is probably getting on a bit too ... 21, blonde, good looking - yeah, in his dreams!!

Been doing the family tree(s) since 1978. Thank heavens I started asking questions before my parents died ... I also do a One Name Study. And I write and perform some of my (mad) poetry. Oh, and did I mention I work full time? (thank the Lord for Mr Grumpy - couldn't do it without him!)

Jean (Monmouth) Report 12 Sep 2011 19:55

Mick, now I have seen your picture, what a handsome goat, by the way, I am trying to work out how we can keep one again in this pocket handkerchief of a garden! Now, if OH turned his turning shed into a goatshed, and we kept the fodder in the wood shed, and got a neighbour to take her for a walk on a lead .................. Then i could offer manure for the gardens in exchange for veg for her............ I wonder!

Hi everyone, what a nice thread.

I am a few days shy of 54 and also in few days I will have been married 33 years!! We've no children but the pets made up for that! I was born in Essex but now live in Nottinghamshire, near Sherwood Forest, and I have worked as a Signaller for over 20 years

Over the years we've had a number of different pets but mainly dogs, a GSD, Alaskan Malamute and for the past 18 years we've had Rough Collies. The one in the photo was rescued back by his breeders and we took him on, he's not called 'The Wimp' for nothing, he's now 12 and his 'wife' is 11. We also had Colourpoint Longhairs [I do seem to like hairy animals!!!] which we showed and we bred one that was the best Tortie-point 2 years running!

As well as doing our family histories I have also traced the dogs lines back, and when we had the cats I did thiers too!! I also do Cross-stitch, mainly my own designs, I read a lot, potter around in the garden and play around editing my oh photos..........sometimes I even get chance to sit down and do nothing at all, but not often as I normally have a grooming brush in my hand :-D
