Jean, Deanna had fought other health battles, and most impressive was her return to the boards after a stroke.
She had been feeling unwell for some time and had a fall after which she felt much worse and was eventually checked out, and then went into hospital about a week ago.
I am just glad I had the phone number to ring her son and find out what was happening as I hadn't been able to get a reply from their home number and realised something must be wrong. I didn't know she had been taken into hospital until I spoke with her son on Sunday.

She and her son are very close so it's a bitter blow for him, having seen his Mum fight back so often but this time will not win her battle, bless her.

Still thinking of Deanna, and of Alan and Tony and hope they can keep their chins up. I am praying and sending positive thoughts for you Deanna that you are being kept pain free and comfortable.

Just had a message from Tony to say they are waiting for biopsy results and that a bone scan is needed to have a better estimate of time remaining and also to see if they can do some targeted radiotherapy to reduce the pain from one particular growth.

DIscussions about a hospice or palliative care at home have gone on but not sure if anything is finalised yet. I gather that Deanna is still confused so not really making sense of what is offered etc.

I can only sympathise with them all being under such pressure to get things right for Deanna while feeling so sad.

I do hope that the family can find her a place in a hospice.The care there is second to none.

I remember her recovering quite well from her stroke and her positive attitude.I also remember asking her if she was called after Deanna Durbin...which she was!
Maybe some of you don't remember the famous singer and actress in the forties!
My thoughts are with her and her family.

Thanks for the update Liz. I suspect that Deanna has been suffering in silence for a while thinking that any pain was related to the stroke she had or other problems which is why it was not picked up. She has not been a well person for quite a while but has always been so very cheerful about everything with a great sense of humour. I hope the hospital is managing the pain for her and that she is comfortable. sending her lots of hugs and my love

Ann I think that's what happened. Deanna had a fall a short while back and I think she put a lot of things down to that, altho I remember her saying her family made her get checked out. I think she also said to me, Typical women, we push our menfolk to see the doc but don't look after ourselves so she had probably been that way herself.

I hope she has had the scan today altho it won't have been very comfortable for her and that it will help the doctors direct the radiotherapy and pain relief.

I think Tony is still too busy to look for 'the threads' as he calls them but I have sent him a link to the boards and hope he can get the messages copied soon to show Deanna we are thinking about her (and talking about her, wonder if her poor ears are burning.)
