Keep out of the Salford and manchester town centres...it's all starting to kick off there from what I have seen.

All I would ask is where do the parents of the younger children actually imagine they are?...and why don't they exhibit parental care and do what any sane parent would do....make sure they stay at home away from harm when there's a riot raging in your own back yard !!!

if it's because they don't care then they should be MADE to care. I don't particularly care by which means.x

Burton...read my post ,GR and other forums are pulling threads..it doesn't mean they have been reported by anyone..

The riot act is no more...do keep up! it's been commented on at least 4 times to my knowledge. it was removed from the statute books over 30 years ago.

Muffyxx Report 9 Aug 2011 19:53

Bl**dy high time it was brought back into the statute books again then.

This softly softly approach hasn't and doesn't work and needs to stop before lives are lost.

One of my brothers lives in Blackheath SE London. He rang me earlier today to see if we OK .

He is in his mid sixties and has had two strokes so is a bit unsteady on his feet at times. Last evening he took th bus into Lee Green to do a shop at Sainsbury's. Got off the bus and was crossing the road when hoards of youngsters with their hoodies up and scarves around their faces came belting up the road from the direction of Lewisham . He stopped in his tracks as they crashed past him,he said he was petrified!!. Then he made me laugh because he said "to top it all when I did get to Sainsbury's it was closed and the shutters were down "AND he had to walk back home as all the buses from Lewisham had stopped running.
His wife works in a supermarket in Greenwich and she was rung on her mobile, when she waiting at the bus stop this morning to go to work, and told not to come in we arent opening

Has anyone advocating it actually READ it? you couldn't bring it back without re-writing it for the 21st C and how much do you think that would cost? millions and how long would it take?....years!

"The last time it was read in the United Kingdom was in connection with a delinquency at the bonfire festivities in Chiddingfold in 1929 (! ) and prior to that in Birkenhead on 3 August 1919, during the second police strike when large numbers of police officers from Birkenhead, Liverpool and Bootle joined the strike.[3] Troops were called in to deal with rioting and looting that sprang up, and a magistrate read out the Riot Act. None of the rioters subsequently faced the charge of a statutory felony"

I was shocked and so angry at what went on last night...no excuse at all for such behaviour.

It's time Britain stopped being so b****y PC.

Parental control and care is very important...which sadly to-day is lacking big time......in bringing up a child...to teach them the correct behaviour.

You only have to walk though our town centres to see parents 'f' ing and blinding at their young children...what example is that?

They, the parents, throw their MT cans of beer, crisp packets and rubbish on to the pavements whilst walking past a rubbish bin.

It's no wonder the children grow up into hooligans and thugs with a bad attitude. So what if they are unemployed..they are not the only ones.

They can change their life if they really put rtheir mind to it.

Perhaps now is the time to bring back conscription!

But I don't suppose those that caused so much damage all over the country last night are brave enough to cope with that!

I wonder how they would feel if their home and belongings were deystroyed by other mindless idiots.

Muffyxx Report 9 Aug 2011 20:08

I don't really care how much it costs..how long it takes to implement...or what it's ultimately called...measures need to put into place to deal with this effectively... If the old riot act isn't fit for purpose then it's time to replace it with one that is...maybe too late for this bout of trouble..but at least it's there should it be needed in the future.

I shudder to think of the amount of millions this debacle has cost already...not to mention the fact that these idiots feel they have the upper hand..(they're not wrong at the moment imho which is why it's still on going)...Tottenham alone was said to be £100 million.

Enough is enough.

How sad that it was felt necessary to remove the previous thread. I am one of those who posted several times expressing my view, no bad language etc.
I feel so upset for every one who was caught up in the hordes of people running amok and possibly carrying weapons of one type or another.

This is not the UK of my youth and onwards, but we did notice that between the mid 1980s to the time we left in 2003 the UK was changing . I have written previously about my husbands work in the Immigration Service and how frustrated, angry and in despair he and his work mates were becoming because they were not allowed to do what they should have been doing.

My heart goes out to those who will feel worried and maybe scared with what is happening.
I do not know the answers but I do know is that these persons must receive the proper consequences..prison, band from being out in the evenings, javelin to report to the police every day and made to do voluntary work such as cleaning the streets etc.

If people are in the country illegally then forget conventions etc and send them back and the people checking people coming into the country need more staff rather than less. The number of Immigration officers is being decreased quarter on quarter, I know this for a fact.

The only thing I can do now is pray for those who will be witnessing this and those who have watched this terrible situation.

I agree Hayley imho it's not racial or political..it's just mindless thugs committing daylight robbery and getting away with it.

Send in Gene Hunt I say !!! x

Rambling Report 9 Aug 2011 20:34

it won't matter whether you call it the riot act or something else...if there are not enough police to implement it you're stuffed.

The police have been outnumbered 10 to 1 ( minimum) and haven't known where the next outbreak will be,

Hope none of these protesters families get hurt or worse in this mindless destruction, perhaps then a hard lesson would be learned.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 9 Aug 2011 20:40

Time and time again today I've heard experts say that it didn't matter how many police they had..the fact that these groups were msg'ing on their Blackberries and mobilising on social networking sites completely flummoxed them as it's a new way of doing things..flitting from place to place and it caught them on the hop.

No one likes the cuts.. NO ONE ......no one likes the fact that the cost of living has soared but you know what? Unless we want to end up like Greece it has to be done...we need to take our medicine and deal with it....

Tonight shows we DO have the manpower if needed...they just need to read the signs a bit better next time and mobilise a bit faster.

I rather like what Karen said about Egypt. Not only a good long curfew but a 10 day shut down of mobile phones and internet. Sorry folk it would hit all of us but it would stop it spreading.
