Actually Liz,I had a little nap in the chair when I got home yesterday....then I went to bed earlier and slept for 8 hours,so it must have done me good!

Yesterday was calm and listening to conversation.Today, very sleepy.Stayed for over 2 hours holding his hand and got very sleepy myself so came home a bit earlier.
I'm supposed to be having an aromatherapy massage there tomorrow...looking forward to that.

Nice for you that Dan is calmer and even joining in conversation. If he is more relaxed and eating too he will regain strength.

As you say, Brenda, one day at a time....

Thinking of you both,

Didn't add yesterday as after the hospice went to friend's house for a meal.
Dan is calmer and is talking a little...well joining in a bit when we talk about ordinary things.Think he has accepted the lovely surroundings he is in and getting to know the wonderful, caring nurses. Also eaten a little.
He is safe and comfortable....one day at a time......

Brenda, it's so sad for you to see Dan slowly losing his strength.

I can only wish him peace and comfort in what may be his last days and wish you strength to cope with what is ahead. You have been a star and cared for him so well, to keep him going as long as he has. I am glad you seem to have lots of people around you for support when you need it and hope they will understand that you may need some quiet time to yourself as well.

Take care, you will both be in my thoughts.

Dan is getting weaker.was asleep most of the time we were there.
He did wake up before we left and I managed to get some strawberry blancmange down him,but he refused the puried chicken casserole.

My friend from Lancashire is coming tomorrow till Tues.I really think he is getting towards the end of his suffering.

Poor you Brenda, I can understand how upsetting it must be when Dan gets confused and is cross but I hope he will start to realise he is in a good place now and will take his drugs and eat too.

It will be hard for your son to go away again I expect but at least seeing Dan the way he is, feisty and then not, he will understand when you talk to him and update him how difficult things can be.

Take care and look after yourself as much as you can

Not a good day.
Had a call from his nurse at 9'am to say that he had been calling out.I had things to do so went in this afternoon and he was cross with me and told me to get him out NOW.I want to go home......He had refused drugs and food.He was very confused thinking he was still in hospital. It upset me although I know that it wasn't really him and these things happen.
Son from Oz is with me tomorrow for the last time before flying home....Dan could be calm,or he could be feisty as he seems to fluctuate between the two.

I am glad Dan is in a nice place and being well looked after, it must make you feel a little easier in your mind. Make the most of the peace while your son is away and don't push yourself too hard. It's good that your neighbour could go with you to visit even if Dan wasn't awake but also lovely that a friend could feed him to save you doing it and worrying if he had or hadn't eaten.

Bless him, I hope he feels comfortable and at peace himself.

take care, will be thinking about you both

Dan was very sleepy this afternoon.I went with a neighbour and he hardly recognised us...but a friend's daughter who is a nurse and who he's very fond of went at tea time and got his favourite ainsley Hariot soup down him, which I thought to take in today.
hope I see some improvement tomorrow.

Brenda, I am pleased for both you and Dan that he is now in the hospice. Now you will get some rest and he will be well looked after and comfortable in his last days. And nice young nurses! What more could he want. At least, if he was well that is probably what he'd say!

Take care of you now and let them look after him.

Dan is now in the hospice and seems more settled. He has a beautiful room on his own. It's large with comfortable chairs, plasma TV,French windows onto a lovely patio.Had a long chat with a lovely young female doctor who understands his needs and concerns. Will go this afternoon but am leaving them to feed him etc.
Son has gone to London for 2 nights to see his friends and coming back on Sat before flying back to Oz on Sunday. It's no problem as I can appreciate a little time on my own!
Suzanne....He is in the hospice because his illness is terminal. We have known this since 2006 and he has lasted longer than the 2 years he was given and I believe if he hadn't been at home when he was so ill at Christmas he wouldn't be here now.
He has pulmonary fibrosis and there is no cure,it just gets worse and they can't believe how he has lasted this long.It is just the wait that we don't know if it will be this week or 3 months but the state he is in I would say it will be sooner rather than later but who are we to say?He is very poorly.

Hi Brenda, I am glad your social worker is doing his best and hope Dan will be more comfortable in the hospice and you can find time to check out a good place for him. Will you still have family around to help you with the checks and decision, it would be good if it didn't fall on your shoulders alone altho obviously you know Dan the best to know what would suit his needs, it would be nice to have input from family as well.

Take care of yourself, and hope things go to plan

hi brenda, hope dan is felling better.could i ask why dan is going into a hospice and not a nursing home?x

BrendafromWales

BrendafromWales Report 10 Aug 2011 10:31

Dan is going into the hospice today....but they say it is only for 2-3 weeks while I find a home.I hate him having to go through all this hassle as I thought it would be the last move, but we have had to settle for this as I haven't had time to look at homes yet.Our social worker says that they have suddenly found a bed for him in there as it's where he should have been in the first place.
He is a very good social worker and tries to pull out all the stops, but all these organisations have to go through the right channels!
Will see him this afternoon.....keep you posted!
