Okay, lets bring this back to 'health'.
When it was discovered, 3 years ago that I ony had one kidney, I had to confess to the nephrologist that I never drank water, but drank a lot of tea an a fair amount of wine (of the 'weaker' variety) and beer.

Ah she said - that would explain why your kidney is so healthy!!

Apparently (and you won't be told this) too much water washes out vital minerals from your kidneys - you don't need to tout a bottle of water wherever you go - most liquid comes from food anyway! She was pleased that I didn't drink what, (despite low key reports) is actually considered a dangerous amount of water.
Tea, beer and wine (though not so much spirits) contain many minerals essential to good healthy kidneys.
When I asked her about alcohol and my liver, she said that during the scan, whlst furiously attempting to find number 2 kidney, that has never existed, they'd scanned, my kidney, liver and spleen - and all were perfectly healthy - so I'll carry on!! :-D

Well-this morning it is the medicines we take-it is a wonder there is anyone over 65 alive-or maybe that is the plan :-)

Hi Maggie, i drink a lot of tea and some wine and the odd coffee and am not a great water fan.

When I was expecting my oldest now age 20 we were also told to drink a certain brand of the good old Irish stuff because it contained iron.

Wheredo these "experts" pop up from with the "dont eat this and dont drink that" theories.

I once did a research course as part of my job and was told that believe only half of what you are told and then look who is sponsoring the research. After that you can make a balanced judgement.
Glad all is well with your kidney.

Cheers

Teresa :-D

Dermot

Dermot Report 24 Jun 2011 17:47

Is it safe to assume that all contributors to this thread (except myself) are 65 or over?

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 24 Jun 2011 17:49

Not safe at all at all, Dermot :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Jun 2011 17:54

Might make a few enemies if you assume that Dermot. Share it out Teresa and fill the bottle with water, she'll maybe be too 'happy' to notice!!

Evening Ann, and hope you have replenished the vat of Gin :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Jun 2011 18:05

Evening BC, Sadly no, it is the tonic that is missing, going to do the weekly shop tomorrow so will be dry(ish) until then. Maybe have a scotch or an amaretto later. (And had a large glass of white at lunch time!!!

Libby

Libby Report 24 Jun 2011 19:47

I have always enjoyed the odd wine or three but have now found that the older I get the less my body can tolerate it. Now, I am half piddled after a glass (small) and a half.

At the rate I am going I will be completely TT by the time I am 65 :-0 :-0.

I may have to invest in a tambourine, and sign the pledge ;-)

Doesn't bear thinking about

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 24 Jun 2011 19:58

Libby, you need more practice and you may borrow my old tambourine if you wish :-D

Libby

Libby Report 24 Jun 2011 20:07

BC ... I have practiced for years :-D

Used to run our own pub then managed an "Offy". "Wine tastings" were my favourite promotion :-D. The only problem was that I developed a taste for the more expensive wines !!

I think I am turning into my Mum. My Dad used to say that she was cheap to take out because by the time she had finished a drink, it had a dust on it :-)

Cooper

Cooper Report 24 Jun 2011 20:16

I have snuck in Dermot, :-D

BC we have traded the bottle of white from Daughter for a bottle of pink which I will get tomorrow.

She is out minus the pineapple tonight.
She is a good gel and is driving so no alcohol for her. She took a while to pass her driving test (like me!) so keeps on non alcoholic drinks if driving.Teresa :-)
