Didn't realize we had other countrywo(men) here Syl. Now that the "Rapture" has passed Ontario we have to wait for your report. Perhaps the only people experiencing rapture are "Those" new (old) senators.

yep, I'm still waiting for rapture

or could we have to wait for Oct 21st?

That also seems to be part of his prophecy.

Sigh, as fully explained (by me) in AuntyS's rapture thread -- only the *good* people got raptured. Look around you. Surely *somebody* is missing! ;)

The rest of us have been LEFT BEHIND (as the books and movies say), and we must wait til Oct 21 to get burned up.

Are you implying that we are not "Good" In my youth I helped old ladies across the road (whether they wanted to cross or not)

Hi SylviaIC.

In the early stages of this thread mention was made about the number of posts. (Amongst other Canadian type conversations which make absolutely no sense whatsoever to a wicked Australian who also missed the "rapture").

Have we ever discussed the fact that Janey is very bad at mathematics.

If I add 20495 and 5015 it equals 25510. But then who's counting.

Edit. However I can beat you in the matri"moan"ial stakes. Mine is 49 this December. Hope parole is not far away.

MONK-BACKHOUSE.-On the 17th February 1892 at the North Adelaide Baptist Church, by the Rev. W. E. Rice, Frank, eldest son of the late Alfred Monk, to Ada Emily, eldest daughtor of the late J Vivian Backhouse, both of North Adelaide

If Frank Monk married Ada Backhouse she would be Ada Monk. It's the wrong spelling isn't it???

I am looking through old newspaper family notices for the Backhouse family - this one is no relation, but I did have a giggle.

Ah ha. Also have one or two for Monck. William Ivermey Monck died 8 Nov 1931.

Can somebody explain to me what AuntyS is on about? Are those numbers some kind of magical incantation ... to ward off Canadians or something? Is 25520 the year the world will end, now? How come we add rather than subtracting? If we subtract the other way around, do we get the year B.C.E. that AuntyS has traced her line of circus clowns back to?

YES it's the wrong spelling, AuntyS. Aargh, sigh. We are not common or garden variety Monks, us. And she was Ada Lennox Monck Hill (Coke), not Ada Emily. Two middle names, if you please, thank you. Although a father named Vivian, that could fit in, a proper toffee-nosed moniker, that; it's my Cambridge-educated German Jamaican pal's middle name. Hubby Charles Henry Coke aka McCock did tell his children his name was Charles Vivian Frederick Cock, apparently.

William Ivermey Monck is another of those Essex Moncks (that you tried to insinuate into my Hill/Monck thread once before), I seem to think, although I don't know why. Keep up now!

Now Frank Monk marrying in 1892, though, could be fun. Francis Ward Monck the (in)famous 19th century spiritualist kind of disappears around then. He gets out of gaol and is said to have gone to the US, but left no trace. In 1881 he's a confectioner in London, calling himself Francis Ward. (Oh for an 1890 US census.) Maybe he really went to Oz! If he travelled as Ward, even after 1890, I'd never find him ... not that we're related, of course. I have a thread on him around here someplace.

Oh look, I just found a link to his trial! I'd never seen the details before. New stuff on the internets all the time (Monck v. Hilton, 1877).

I thought the graves opened on May 21, the godly went to heaven, the ungodly went down below

Then there was chaos, earthquakes, etc until October 21st .......... when all the living godly got to ascend to heaven

so I guess we still have time

:))

No incantation to ward off anything. Merely a mathematical addition to calculate the number of posts attributable to an individual; although one part of that individual may now be a faded green silhouette of her current self.

Have you accessed the Trove website. Google it and then click on digitised newspapers. I expect you would have discovered it by now and know it requires a bit of patience. I have just found OHs grandfather's death and in memoriam notices in the newspapers, and the birth of triplets to his great grandmother. Who knows, if you have ancestors traipsing around Oz, they might have been noteworthy enough to rate a column in the local rag.

Yes SIC one more year to go and I am still asking myself, "why??"

I gather it was!!

We don't watch the games, or listen to them on the radio

we watched all or part of 3 games in the 1st round against Chicago

They lost all 3

we didn't watch the next game

They won

so we're not allowed to watch :)))))

I do have a tab open on the computer at Scoreboard, and check that at intervals.

Actually, it was strange last night

we are miles away and to the south from downtown, but I was in the kitchen, the window of which faces onto a north-south street. There was suddenly one of those "did I hear a noise" moments, sort of muffled roar.

turned on the tv, and the players were just celebrating

Not sure if I had actually heard the noise from downtown, or if it was one of the neighbours!
