Cooper Report 7 Feb 2011 11:59

I wasnt a believer when I was younger, however many things have happened which I cant explain.

My late work mate one day said that she had a message for my Husband from a spirit guide.
It included a promotion, a job move and move of house.

We were not thinking of moving until the promotion came up and the first house we viewed had the exact interior which she had said.
She also said he would becom a millionare, not through the lottery and we are still waiting for that one!

Our last house was about 40 years old and I never felt comfortable there. I dont know why, just somthing I could not put my finger on.
The house was nice and neighbours lovely but we moved. In 10 years it has been sold on 4 times, people dont tend to stay there.

My late Mumsaid she hated her life and would never return. 6 years on she still hasnt visited.

My Dad who died last year pops up all the time in dreams which are very vivid.

I worked in an old hospital and many of us saw unexplained things, on days and nights.

The strangest thing was an evening in a local hall with a medium.
I wasnt sitting next to my Husband, My friend and her Husband were in between.
The Medium pointed to my Husband and said he had been in the navy and told him the last ship he had served on( we live many many miles from any Naval ports), he pointed to me and said I was OHs wife and correctly told me that I had a miscarrage and how old the Baby would have been now.
The very odd thing was that my friend had lost a baby in late pregnancy and he got all the details correct. There were some other women near by who we did not know who we found out from the medium had lost a baby or pregnacy and he was correct with their details as well.

Who knows what the truth is, It was comforting to us all and every time my Dad pops up in my dreams he is always helping me.

We will never know the whole truth but these dreams, guides and happenings must happen for a reason.

I had an imaginary friend as a child called Susan.
Children often have them and I can picture her now, at least I think she was imaginary!

Teresa :)

Hmmmm.....

Report on the news today re a new ride being constructed at Thorpe Park (Suurey)

"construction has had to stop at the original area chosen as workman reported "ghostly" goings on and equipment being moved "

"Gyophys" of the site suggests an ancient buriel site below

(google Thorpe Park Rides )

The area lies between where Chertsy Abbey once stood and Thorpe Church

The ride is to be repositioned to allow the area to be excavated

I've had a few things happen which can't be explained away rationally.
The most recent one was when I found an obituary for one of my Grandmother's siblings, which had insertions from all my Grandmother's large family. This Great uncle died during WW2-and I was taking my time reading each insertion, comparing the style of the writing then and now.
I became aware of a woman's perfume around me-my Grandmother used to wear 4711,and that's what it smelt like. Then there was the faint but distinctive smell of pipe tobacco.I felt like there were all these siblings seeing their names in print, clustered around me,looking,
checking out what I was doing.
Maybe that was just a foolish fancy,I don't know, but that's what it felt like.

Strangely enough,in the same edition of that paper,my OH's Grandmother's death notice was in there as well, which was a pleasant surprise.

I have never smelt 4711 around me since that day,but I have smelt tobacco around me before that, when I've been sitting here at the computer.

When I went to Edinburgh Castle, in 2009,I heard a very distinctive tapping on the wall panelling in one of the rooms, about 4 times, followed by the sound of a round door knob turning ,which was a little freaky, as there was no door knob there . There was nothing there to make that noise-there was only wall behind it. I have no way of explaining that one!

I would take Ginny's advice and ask them to leave if you feel a presence and you are not happy with it. Failing that you could always go to a Spiritulist Church and ask for advice. I go occasionally and some mediums are not as in touch as others but for the ones who have the gift they can be a source of reassurance .Ignore sceptics as the spirits ignore them.-jle

Ginny says it perfectly-if you haven't seen any ghosts, you will not believe in them.

And Sheila WestWilts-"There will always be those who believe, and those who don't."

And Mick-"I have never seen a ghost,I don't believe in them, there fore they don't exist." And cites Hallucinations/mental illness/delusions/wishful thinking/excessive carbon monoxide etc as reasons why anyone might have thought that they saw a ghost.Last time I checked I was of sound mind,as I'm sure are Rambling Rose and all the other people who say that they have seen ghosts, and none of the other reasons apply either.

Can't we just respect everyone's beliefs and opinions-obviously,we will never agree on this, and just make it an interesting thread where people can feel free to talk about what they have seen?

I went to see a medium once who said I was surrounded by spirits in my work a day situation. She said they were everywhere.
Over the years I had saved the obituaries out of the local paper in order that we wouldn't make an appointment for a deceased patient, I had literally hundreds . When I returned to work I threw the lot away!-j

Well Mick, in response to your reasons. I would like you to explain away my gmother's visit.

The visitation took place in Sept 1958 (my father died 16 October 1958 - unexpectedly in my house). The house was built in 1950/51. Was well aired as both doors were open as dau was in her pram outside.

I have never suffered from any form of mental illness (mind you - I thought I was out of my mind when this happened).

Why would I have or anyone else fabricated this? My g.mother died in a different country.

Why would I have deluded myself?

My father was her son - was she forewarning me of his death in my house?

I used to when I was younger dream of accidents/health issues happening to immediate members of family. In OH case I foretold 3 car accidents - he walked away each time. One time he was going on a coach trip (all men) and I called him back as he was leaving to 'mind the bus'. When the coach returned to deposit them all safely, I received a visit from his friend to tell me OH was in hospital as coach had knocked him down as he left.

Mick - I would love to know the answers, please tell me.

As the Gaelic/Celtics are purported to have 'the gift' or 'the sight'.

Interesting to know how many of those who have posted are descended from these two groups?

Myself -both gparents were Manx and they are a superstitous lot. The other pair were 1 Scots and 1 Irish! To this day acknowledgements are made as one goes over the Fairy Bridge and I know of 2 highflier businessmen both living on IOM (not themselves Manx) who will swear to the power of the Fairy Bridge!

No I don't believe in ghosts.

I'm not closed to the idea they may exist and some things have happened to me that COULD be viewed as spooky..but equally there could also be a perfectly rational explanation for them.

I've yet to be convinced though so I am firmly in the no camp until such a time as i am x

chris of wessex - just wondered why you were so afraid of your gran's ghost. Did you two not get-on very well when she was alive?

Guardian Angel Report 7 Feb 2011 19:06

I honestly believe once your dead your dead, that's it!! It's amazing what we can imagine or believe we actually smelt something. There is normally always a plausible answer!!

Until there is conclusive "proof" of the after life, such as a photo or 3, I'm afraid I'll always be a sceptic.

Dermot, I loved my gran very much and she loved all of her gchildren.

How would you feel if you were suddenly confronted by a close relative who had been dead for 11 years? Grow up and don't ask silly questions.

Gee Report 7 Feb 2011 19:34

Is there 'proof' that there is no after life?

The US dollar bill has 'In God We Trust' on the front....has anyone proved God exists?

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel Report 7 Feb 2011 19:40

No Ginny, but I like to be realistic, I see no point believing in something that has no substance or proof to it!

It's abit like believing in the tooth fairy, who leaves a quid under the pillow.Total tosh of course!
