ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 22 Oct 2010 23:23

I'm just hoping there's a decent job out there next May :-)

Of course instead of children we could invite immigrants to come here in the future. We have an ageing population and need someone to come and work here to pay taxes and keep the country going.

When the Welfare State was devised it was assumed that those who retired would only live 5/10 years after retirement. People now are living longer so more is being spent than say 50 years ago.

Kay???? Report 22 Oct 2010 23:28

Taxing those who in a decent job more wouldnt meet the supply and demand out the national pot.

there are too many areas of need that puts a vast drain on funds.

The people living longer are a drop in the ocean in real terms against the vast increase in the population in this country whos funded by the govs payout system.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll find a decent job, Cait.

Just don't take it out on immigrants. they are people too.

sorry, Kay, but it would

the books have to be balanced. Either by cutting expense or by raising more money. I'd personally prefer the latter. that way we all take a share in the pain

I am not so sure that people are living longer. I think this is a misconception or maybe my ancestors are an exception rather than the rule.

I have quite a lot that lived into their 80's and 90's. One died in 1937 aged 96. So there is hope for me yet:-)

I think the benefits bill was less because there was a stigma attached to them and is still prevalent in are elderly citizens today, as many do not claim everything they are entitled to.

I think there are a lot of scroungers and they need to be addressed. There are alot who think some jobs are beneath them.

Up to a point Suz,but most people in decent well paid jobs, cut their cloth accordingly,,,,,ie house, school fees, good living, nice holidays,,,,

now would some be prepared to take little Johnny out of school change their Jag for a Polo go to Skeggy in a caravan for a week ,,,,, pay more in taxes so that young Fred down the road can have his car,holidays for his 6 kids,all mod gadgets and all he has to do is pick is benifits up on a Monday as hes done for the past 15/20 years.:}}}}}}

One of the first things I'd do to sort this country out is possibly a bit off the wall but . . . no footballer to be paid more than, say, £12,000 a year. The difference is then put back into wherever it is needed, be it the Health Service or schools or whatever. It would surely generate - or rather, redistribute - millions. (Admittedly I'm not a football fan but I don't see why kicking a ball around the pitch entitles somebody to get paid enough money in one year to employ about ten teachers. Football might have a big following but it's not exactly an "essential" job in the way that being a doctor, nurse, teacher, firefighter etc is.

Also, higher interest rates for people who are very careful with their bank accounts and who don't go overdrawn or have credit cards/store cards - I think it's time the financially careful people got something back.

All car parking to be made free. Although this would of course make traffic wardens redundant, people would be able to park for free when they were shopping so they might be more inclined to wander round for longer and spend more money.

My dad had an idea the other day to drop the price of everything by, say, 10% because then lower prices might encourage more sales and the cost of essentials would drop so people would have extra money in their pocket.

i also think drugs should either be legalized and taxed
or make it illegal to take them as well as supply them

there are far to many drug takers committing crimes
to fund their habits which costs us all in the long run

Kay????

Kay???? Report 23 Oct 2010 12:35

Trouble is Kate,,

footballers are highly taxed to the max,,so bring in good revenue,,unless like a lot of MPs,lords and the like have offshore banking?and the government dont pay footballers the clubs do.!

higher interest would mean a hike in,loan interest, mortgages or buisness loans where the owners are struggling now to keep a company together...

totally free parking, that brings in a very good revenue to local councils,so would see that added to an already big council tax bill for payers to keep them up to standard.

good ideas though.

Me, well first I,d get rid of the "Illegal immigrants" next stop all money being paid for families not resident here, next stop all overseas aid, then make all scroungers work for what they get off the dole,i/e no work no money. then Ringfence our country( Preferably with Razor Wire ) all Quangos to go ( Jobs for the Boys ) return some Universities to what they were "Technical Collages" introduce the old system of Apprenticeships ( Proper ones) and only real courses at uni,s i/e Doctors, engineering things like that which we need to get the country going again, then only import what we really need,i/e what we can,t make or grow. finally re the bad back syndrome.Drop a couple of £50.notes on the floor and watch how fast some of the pick them up. oh one other thing.young girls who have children, to stay at home and be cared for by their parents whilst the father is made to pay and care for the child, and if under age proecuted.**M**

Hayley Legend Report 23 Oct 2010 14:18

This thread has kept me amused, firstly "Illegal immigrants" do not and can not receive a penny from this government or any other governent that has run this country, so thats a load of bull, now about buying british, I am very fond of bananas and pineapples and such tropical fruit. So whats to stop other Coutries trading with us as much as we do with them, if place's like primark go I wont be able to afford much more expensive clothes so there is another few thousand made redundant, so more to dole the queues, arghh the benefits being drained a little more, tax will rise a little higher, ok import and export trade has stopped, so has the tourist trade, hmmmm I really dont fancy 2 weeks in clacton on sea in the middle of Jan but cant afford holiday as no one wants to take the Brits coz we are arsey with them, hmmmm what is the point of me going out to work I know I'll go and join the rest on the dole.....of course we are at present trying to sort out the benefit culture so thats me pennyless.

I have a "bad back" Merlin. It was broken. Fortunately my spinal cord was n't. The scar tissue and new bone growth is slowly crushing it though so I'm gradually losing control of everything below my waist. I had an op. in march and it's looking like I'll need another shortly. Please understand not all people suffering from "bad backs" are malingering.

There's a lot of people who aren't saying all yet fail to say the word some in their posts.

One question. If work is available for dole money why isn't it available for a proper wage?

There are community projects that could be done. Work for charities who are always looking for volunteers.

This way the unemployed will hone their skills, and learn new skills whilst benefiting the whole community.

I wonder how many long term unemployed there would be if it meant that they had to get up every morning come rain or shine.
