A friend swears by an own- brand cough linctus from S**nsbury, if you have one near? I use Ds Tixylix usually.

Other than that lots of onions ( mum used to boil onion in milk, eat the onion, drink the milk...she was very healthy lol but for me that would be worse than having the cough ;)

Now then our BC, what you need is to sweat that cough off of your chest.
Firstly make a tatter poultice out of the peelings of some Maris Pipers, muck included. Apply to your chest, and firmly bind it up, as we used to do, when swaddling babies. At night times, instead of the poultice, apply a good thick coating of fresh goose grease, no, not that that is in the roasting pan from the Sunday dinner, ( allways good if you are thinking of swimming the English Channel), mixed with some Kaolin and Morphine. Do all of this accompanied by the method suggested by Merlin. Don't worry about giving it to anyone, no-one will come near you smelling like that.
We country folks know how it is done. After all we were using these methods before B***ts opened its first doors, incidently about 12 miles down the road from me in THAT other county.
Happy smelling, oh no, I meant happy smiling. Oooops

Julia I knew you would not let me down. This is just the kind of advice I was hoping for. Some down to earth, witchipoo, old fashioned remedy:-) I am off to dig up some Maris Pipers and will try and catch a goose(would a pigeon do?) when I take doggie to walk in park.

I am indebted to you:-)))))
