Julia, I suggest you re-read what this thread says and what you have posted yourself. I did not say you reacted. It was you who said that I was trying to get a reaction from you which is not the case. I have not diverted from anything that was raised in this thread. Honestly it is nothing personal, I have no problem with you :)

SRS, I have nothing further to say to you, because whatever I do say, will only be twisted around, and misunderstood. I will agree to disagree, and that is the end of the matter.

You have had (without your knowledge as you say) your maiden name avaliable for anyone who clicked on your name or sent you a PM.
I have never seen DOB given on GR info through PM,s or click on name but I may be wrong.
You live in Derbyshire .. as Kay says info is easily traced through BMD and onto electoral registers
Have you asked this person why they sent you this information?
Please understand I am not condoning their behaviour if the intent was malicious but I would be asking the person concerned why they felt the need to send me this.

~~ No Julia you are missing my point,,,,

You have listed this person as a Stalker, which you openly admit isnt the case and a word chosen to suit the situation,,so in all fairness to still have that in your thread title is grossly unfair on this person.......

What led up to revealing your details to you privately only you know.but scary all the same when you were unaware how your details were shown by clicking on your name and has been displayed since you joined.

Hi Newbs it used to be that when you looked at names in contacts that the year of birth was given, (people got round that by putting a different year) , from that it was possible to ( for eg ) find my birth details and post them on the board, should one be of that mind...

I'd be interested, having moved a couple of times, to see if anyone could come up with my current address...i expect they can....or by innocent word of mouth... that's the big 'problem' with the internet, not just GR, if there's a will to find out there is always a way!

Kay???? What I was trying to say was, what word should I have used.
In respect of seeing other people's DOB and maiden name, let me say just this.
When GR had their last session of 'tweeking' I clicked on the name of a lady, to send her PM about something, who is normally on General, but occassionally on Chat. I was alarmed to see her private details, and told her I was able to access this. If she did something about it, I do not know, as I was away from home for a while, and immediately forgot about it until this matter arose.
I genuinely mean it, when I ask, what word should i have used.

Julia,
I know you are upset but before you go can I ask again
Have you contacted this person to ask why they have sent you this info?
Please don,t worry.. it may be completely harmless but a bit stupid.

Unfortunately as more information is put on the Internet there is an increased risk of an individuals personal security being compromised.

Julia, by your own admission the person who PM'd you has not been stalking you but breached your personal security and that of your family. This must be extremely disconcerting and frightening. Therefore, I agree with Kay when she says the title of the thread is misleading. However I do thank you for making other members aware of the flaws in GR security.

On a security issue: who is responsible if a lookup done in good faith on Electrol Rolls, Marriages and Births of living people result in an abuser tracking down their victim?

Rambling Report 11 Sep 2010 19:23

Kay, I can't remember how it appeared., but I know it was there either in 'inbox' or 'my contacts' because in 2007 I informed a friend that I could see their real surname which I knew they didn't want showing, and that the year of birth also showed, though that didn't matter as they had reversed the last 2 digits :))

Kay, click on the name of the sender in your Inbox...that's where you find it.

Julie

Julie Report 11 Sep 2010 19:28

Kay

You wouldn't see it now no mater how old your PMs are as GR change the lay out of the messages

You could also tell before hand if someone had PMed you through a thread or through the search trees
