They have, actually - the other one is for the American series so I'm told.

I've been googling David Bowie lyrics all afternoon lol.(wasn't a huge fan of his)

I feel like I'm so close to dotting the i's on this...but I have a brain block.

The ghosts are easy ish to figure out in relation to Bowie songs but viv and Nelson...nope...and the stars could be one of many.

Anywaaaay...saw today that two songs on this weeks play list are

In the air tonight by phil collins

and this charming man by the smiths

(not sure of accuracy) but i'm LOVING the music xx

Got to echo Muffy, I've been going thru Bowie lyrics, got me beat..............don't really know what I'm looking for.

Are they the obvious Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars?

Why Nelson and Viv? The clown that haunted Alex was her Dad. What was the test card girl to Sam? Am I digging myself deeper?

Come Friday I'll have such a bad headache, I won't be well enough to watch it!!! Lol

Just got to join in this debate, cos its driving me nuts.

The Ashes to Ashes video, shows David Bowie dressed as a clown walking along the beach. He is being followed by 3 women [ghosts maybe] does it refer to this.

When Sam Tyler jumped off the roof it did indeed play David Bowie, but the credits were set to someone singing Over The Rainbow. Confused, I certainly am.

Nelson was the actor in Only Fools and Horses. Did Rodney have somefink to do wiv it.

So if there is a clue in the words to the song Ashes to Ashes, then who the heck is Major Tom?? Alex's father?

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 20 May 2010 11:40

Just another thought. Rambling now.

In the Ashes to Ashes video there is a scene where Bowie is sitting in a chair, with loads of tubes coming out of him.

Sam Tyler was in hospital in a coma with tubes coming out of him.

Am I making sense or am I chewing a brick.

OK. I've just watched the last episode on i-Player, about the ANC. Still dont connect this with David Bowie.

So Sam may be buried in a farmhouse in Lancashire. The house had a weathervane on the top of it, with Father Time, pointing west.

Does this have something to do with Over the Rainbow where Dorothy comes from the West and lives on a farm. I still keep thinking that Life on Mars ended with someone singing Over the Rainbow, and they are connected in some weird way.

Someone mentioned on this board earlier that Alex often wore red shoes, so is the connection that Gene is a friend of Dorothy, cos he never actually kissed Alex when they were slow dancing.

[Stands back, cos I can feel myself being pelted with rotten tomatoes]

Christina........WOT are you on??!!!! LOL.

"The Man Who Sold The World"

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago

Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With The Man Who Sold The World

I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed

I gazed a gazely stare at all the millions here
We must have died alone, a long long time ago

Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man who Sold the World .

That's about the only Bowie song (that I can think of) which may have meaning.

Yes Martyn you are right, Life on Mars was playing when Sam jumped, but over the credits at the end, when they give a list of cast and crew, Over the Rainbow was being sung. Some uptempo version.

Don't know why I'm trying to guess (not that I've got a clue) I haven't even started watching series 3 yet...Having only got back to UK last week, I'm waiting for a recorded disc (thanks to my brother) to be posted to me!!

So does Bolly Knickers and the Gene Genie get it together then, or not?

Oh Please!! What are you lot talking about.

Signed,

A completely befuddled Australian who comprehends the words on this thread but when they are gathered into sentences can make no sense of any of it!!!

MotownGal Report 20 May 2010 22:49

Sorry Aunty Sherlock, we are just a load of old saddo's that want to get to the bottom of a series that still makes no sense to any of us. Loved THE SULLIVANS by the way.

Whilst watching the last episode on i-Player, I was making notes [Heaven help me] I noticed the following.

Plenty of stars [akin to The Sky At Night]
Loads of red lockers
References to Zulu, the film.
Some bloke called De Villiers [Cruella could be his sister]
Police whistles
Constant references to Nelson [Nelson Mandela and Nelson the bartender]

SO. Does this mean Patrick Moore is the clown. The red lockers denote a link to The Sixth Sense. Stanley Baker is Gene Hunt in disguise. Perdita and Pongo are Ray and Chris. Norman Wisdom is the policeman in On The Beat. And Horatio Nelson will be crying 'Kiss me Hardy' on the farmhouse, in the West, with a scarecrow and Old Father Time.

Getting a bit fretful now, cos I'm tired, may go bye-byes soon.

Now Karen don't tell me you can't understand this lovely thread. Why look at all those words, and phrases and sentences and paragraphs, not to mention the punctuation!!

I have worked out the following, if you can follow me

1. It is a TV program
2. It must be about a person called Gene Hunt
3. Comprehension of the plot requires careful attention to each episode.
4. It strains the brain cells of those who watch.
5. Intelligent persons find the synopsis and the daily updates completely and utterly incomprehensible.
6. No one is going to explain, because they don't know.

Thank goodness for the Marx Brothers and Mel Brooks.
