Yeah, Muffy. We sure don't hear much about how the English / Brits should stop going to live in other people's countries ...

It's just the white folks' burden, to be entitled to live wherever you want!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:06

And ...

"the rules on refugees as far as i know is
that they go to the nearest boarder of safely
why should my taxes go to keep them
when no boarder of the British isles are at war"

Yes, isn't it nice to be an island? No borders at all ...

We in Canada border only the US. So we can tell them all to stay out too. The US itself borders only Mexico and Canada, so no refugees for them. Heck, most of Europe borders only other bits of Europe, so we can all just tell them to turn around and go back.

Let the rest of the world bear the burden. Our countries have no international obligations to help with international problems, and we have no moral duty to people in danger ...

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:05

We signed up for free movement across the EU...which works both ways.

When some E European countries entered the EU a couple of years ago that meant they had the automatic right to enter the country without limits....and for us to enter theirs.

Refugees are a tiny part of immigration.

This governments failure to negotiate terms before these countries joined is what's caused the issues.

While we're in the EU under the terms that we're there under... there's naff all we can do about it.

Well Janey, as no action was taken against my sister they must have felt they were standing on quicksand...lol perhaps they didn't want the publicity in case a number of other interfering old people joined her and made deductions too.

Aren't we supposed to live in a democracy not under a dictatorship? She was excercising her democratic right on a moral issue and I for one am proud of her.

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:03

Joy, what *are* you talking about??

"and somebodys sexuality is no concern of mine
so why should i pay extra on my rates
if they have extra financial needs let them pay for this themselves"

What "extra financial needs" does someone have that taxes pay for, because they're gay or lesbian??

"he will be voting English democrat"

Hey, lots of people vote stupidly. Maybe he's just self-loathing, and doesn't think he should be able to marry the person he wants to marry. Maybe he doesn't want to get married and doesn't care about anybody else. Maybe he's a bigot himself and just incidentally gay. Maybe he doesn't know what their platform is ...

the rules on refugees as far as i know is

why should my taxes go to keep them

so they should not be here
not racist but common sense
and somebodys sexuality is no concern of mine
so why should i pay extra on my rates
if they have extra financial needs let them pay for this themselves
i have just spoken to one of my gay friends on the phone
i wanted his views and he said
he will be voting English democrat
I said i was still undecided
Also why should foreign country
have control over a British port ie Dover

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 20:44

Uh, SuperC, what did she think she was paying for?

Bathhouses for the gay?

How exactly did her council taxes pay for the "cause" of GLBT rights?

There's a whole danged lot of things I don't believe in. Some of the current military occupations of foreign countries, for starters.

How are UK citizens who deduct their share of the cost of the invasion and occupation of Iraq from their taxes doing? Certainly the whole country would be doing a whole lot better if everybody did that ...

Everybody has the right to hold whatever beliefs they want.

Requiring that people pay taxes for the costs of programs that have been established by their DEMOCRATICALLY elected representatives is not "holding them to account". Putting them in prison for their beliefs, now that would be holding them to account. Heck, so would making them pay a fine. Requiring someone to pay taxes is neither of those things.

How about if people who don't have children stop deducting the cost of schools and playgrounds from their taxes ... How about if us atheists decide we don't want to pay taxes to have snow cleared from roads in front of churches and mosques and so on ... How about if racists start deducting the portion of their taxes that provides public services to people of colour ... ?

Your sister should have had collection action taken against her. Period. Just like anybody else who doesn't pay their taxes should and does.

"Why shouldn't political parties state their true aims should they be elected?"

Why in &%$# are you asking me this question??

Let them sing it out loud and proud.

"Those that feel aggrieved by any aspect of the English Democratic party can ... speak out."

I think I did. I'm sure many are and will.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 24 Apr 2010 20:32

Janey a question for you please.

My late sister was vehemently against any part of her council tax being appropriated for 'lesbian and gay rights'.
She loved my gay friends and so was not in any way homophobic. However, she chose NOT to pay that portion of her council tax which had been allocated to something she didn't fundamentally feel should be paid for by her.

She calculated what percentage of her bill would be used for that cause and deducted it from her payment enclosing a letter to explain why.

The council did not pursue her for that money and obviously credited her account. Norman Tebbit was her MP at the time and I know he got a very 'hot under the collar' letter from her too...lol

My point is everyone has the right to hold a belief and not to be held to account for it by the local/national politicians.
Each of us has the opportunity to express our unease with government actions if we would only take the time to do so.

Those that feel aggrieved by any aspect of the English Democratic party can contact them, contact the press, open a blog and speak out.

Why shouldn't political parties state their true aims should they be elected? Would you rather they fluffed it all up and only exposed their true agenda later? At least this particular party have been upfront, is that wrong?

It is very rarely what is written in a manifesto that is the danger...it is what is NOT said, but is 'subtly'(?) implied that one needs to keep one's eye on.

My 'qualifications' in English Lit may not have changed my life...but they have made me much more aware of the 'subtext' !

Janey

There are many parties they can vote for according to their own choice.

It is my choice who I vote for.

But may I say thank you for your charming input.

Glad I could be of service, Dianne .......................................

Which one of the gay/lesbian people you know are you going to tell first that you have so little respect for them that you plan to vote for the party whose very slim agenda includes denying them the ability to marry the person of their choice?

Will all your women friends thank you when these bozos vote to revoke their right to control their own bodes?

Is there a party they can vote for, to return the favours?

Daff, I have lived in Wales since 1940, so reckon I have a right to agree with you. Plaid and the welsh labour party are trying to make us a foreign nation in the British isles. I do not speak welsh, whats more, with a stall for 8 years on Abergavenny market I only once heard welsh spoken, though valley people came every week. I'm going to vote for Mac!

Dianne

I had not heard of them before they lifted my windscreen wiper and put one of their fliers under it. That annoys me so they didn't win a vote there. No I wouldn't vote for them, don't agree with some of their ideas.

I wouldn't vote for them, simply because of their title.... says it all for me.

ENGLISH Democrats at a British election? Nope... and I wouldn't vote for Plaid, either, before anyone comments. As a none Welsh speaking Welsh woman, I am marginalised and discriminated against in my own country already.... but let Plaid get a stronger foot, and heaven preserve us!!

These elections are about Britain as a whole... not about one little area.

So I shall stick to one of the Big Three!
