Ah, RR, opinions are only good things when "we" like them. ;)

It's okay to have an opinion, you see.

It's not okay for anybody else to have an opinion about your opinion!

Or if they must do, they should shut up about it. ;)

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:30

Oh, Jane, you might not have noticed, but that was already said. Do try to be original at least!

Well if Janey is on her soap-box ...I'm guess I must be on MY soapbox too...I don't see that as a problem , i see it as having some opinions of my own and not being afraid to state them...

so whether it be my soap-box, Janey's or anyone else's...it is better than being someone who doesn't have an opinion of their own, isn't it . :)),

Actually she didn't because she was retired and her combined pensions were under the tax threshold...lmao

Where the hell do you get a tax credit from? I must google it because that's a new one on me!!

"why cant she go home and just tell nobody she is a lesbian"

I dunno. I wonder what life would be like if people got put to death for being heterosexual. Think many heterosexuals would just tell nobody they're heterosexual? Hmm, maybe nobody would notice. I mean, all heterosexuals should find it quite easy to live their lives celibate ...

"Michael said he doesnt have to be married to his partner of 11 years
he said its just a waste of paper"

Yeah, that's one of the options I suggested. I'm all right, Jack, and * the rest of you. (Fine old English naval saying, we'll recall.)

"and his vote is his to use as he pleases"

And the earth revolves around the sun. I know I haven't denied either one. Anybody else want to?

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:27

I may well be getting the wrong end of the stick here...and if i have i'll apologise...

but local council tax isn't used to fund wars is it? Illegal or otherwise? Isn't that income tax? xx

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:25

And superc, you know even better what I was saying.

"she refused on moral grounds as a committed Anglican"

But she paid taxes for the totally immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq? (And what of those who do? withhold their taxes for that, that is. They get off with a credit to their tax account?)

At least gay men and lesbians don't generally go around bombing and maiming children ...

Janey you seam to have an opinion on every subject

can you PLEASE also give us yours on

the economic decline of Albanian shopping malls

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:23

It's impossible to vote for ANY party and agree 100% with all their policies.

You just have to choose the one that fits your ethos the best..

I shall be voting Conservative...not because I agree with EVERYTHING in their manifesto but because I believe they're our best hope of turning .things around this parliament...AND getting rid of this government.

I'm sure they are those that would no more vote Tory than fly to the moon...pretty much my stance on the Labour party.

But each to their own x

Rambling Report 24 Apr 2010 21:21

But Joy, why can't the Iraqi lesbian girl be allowed to work here and pay her taxes and not be a 'burden' ?

Yes of course she could keep quiet about her sexuality back home...and never have the chance to have a loving relationship, and always fear the knock at the door, never mention she found someone attractive because she might be reported....in other words living a lie and living in fear.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 24 Apr 2010 21:19

I truly give up...lmao you know perfectly well what I was saying, she refused on moral grounds as a committed Anglican. Now that didn't mean that she didn't love my gay friends as individuals because she did ,as I said before.

I'll end it here :-)) I am still proud of the old girl because she acted on her beliefs instead of just moaning like many do.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 24 Apr 2010 21:16

Janey ,we have 2 levels of taxes here,,,,

one we pay to our local authority,,,,for the good of the county expenses,,,,,,roads, pavements upkeep, libaries, musems, record and archive offices, playareas,,,,,;;;;;;;;;;;;;etc...
this is local council tax,,,buisnesses pay an extra local tax on top aswell,,,,,,,varies from county to county how much,,,,,,
London is high very high...
the other taxes are a deduction from wages/earning which wrok on a scale more you earn more you pay,,,,,,,, that is paid to the gov for everything thats paid out of it,,,,from the pm wages to the royal menu,,,,,,,,

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Apr 2010 21:16

our taxation pays lots of silly little groups for minoritys
that make no difference to our existence
we should all be treated the same
i know of an Iraqi girl who is here claiming asylum
because she is a lesbian
and said she will be put to death in her own country
but she is not allowed to work
so we the tax payers are paying her keep
why cant she go home and just tell nobody she is a lesbian
Michael said he doesnt have to be married to his partner of 11 years
he said its just a waste of paper
and his vote is his to use as he pleases

JaneyCanuck

And when it comes to helplines -- surely all those battered women are the author of their own misfortune and should suck it up and deal. Or at least there are many who would say so.

So I guess they get to deduct that cost from their taxes ...

Rambling

Rambling Report 24 Apr 2010 21:10

Re funding for Gay issues..I thought I would have a look and see where my council tax this year is going locally...

as far as I can see it is going to a

"helpline for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities"

I rather think given the rise in homophobia I see amongst the youngsters here **( not to mention the entrenched view of some of the oldies) , that a helpline is a very small thing to ask me as a tax payer to fork out for...I am sure that if my son were gay I would appreciate there being some place he could turn who would give independent advice and support...........

As a home educating mum I am still paying a proportion of my tax towards education....should I be claiming that back because I am paying for someone elses child...not mine?

NB *** by "here" I mean where I live not GR...

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:10

I don't think we should've signed up for it...don't get me wrong.

Other EU countries put a limit on it...we didn't...

but until that changes we're pretty much stuck with it.

C'est La vie xx

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:10

"perhaps they didn't want the publicity in case a number of other interfering old people joined her and made deductions too"

I suspect so.

"Aren't we supposed to live in a democracy not under a dictatorship? She was excercising her democratic right on a moral issue and I for one am proud of her."

Can you direct me to where the democratic right to refuse to pay taxes is written down?

My constitution gives me the democratic right to vote. I've never seen anything about how if I don't like the outcome I get to pitch a fit and say I'm not going to recognize the results.

How 'bout those war taxes, then?

What on earth does paying taxes levied by democratically elected bodies have to do with dictatorship? I'm just not getting this.

And I *still* have no idea exactly what it was she was refusing (or said she was refusing) to pay for.

If not bathhouses for the gay ... ?

StrayKitten
