The one after my whinge about squishing threads. T'was a soppy nauseating video with cute furry and feathered critters singing a Christmassy type song.

Retreats into the background!!

You are a different Sylvia aren't you?????? OK get that glinty gleam out of your eyes. You are, you are!!

Hi AuntyS ~~~~~

I've been me for yonkers!

.............. ever since I was born in fact!!

I've had this name for most of the 6 or so years I've been on GR ... since I realised there were a number of other Sylvias AND figured out how to change my board name.

I really am in Canada, but not close to JaneyC

so I'm not sure what you're on about????

AuntySherlock Report 10 Dec 2009 19:38

Oh it's nothing consequential. Just glad that the one I know as you is you and not someone else. And you are correct there are more.

Bit worried about Ms Janey.

Trying to think of a conversational statement which will initiate a response. Let me see.

When the Australian senate resumes early next year, if it does not pass the Emission Trading Scheme, we will have a double dissolution of our parliament and an election. This will seriously curtail our prime minister's junkets around the globe, and jeopardise a State election which has aready been arranged for March 2010.

There you go. A piece of inconsequential chit chat.

Well it's quite obvious that the poor woman has to toil in gainful employment right up until Christmas.

Will leave this thread in a state of immobile animation until after the silly season.

Syliva (IC). I'm in a pickle and need a fresh pair of eyes. Which is probably not the wisest statement but I'll risk it.....

waves, and ducks.

I know she of the research wizardry is busy. Wish to ask you a question??

I have Hannah Elizabeth Haggis, born about 1821 Poplar Middlesex UK. Father Thomas Haggis (occupation Mariner), no mother.

Sources are 1841, 1851 and 1881 England Census.

I have her marriage on 24 Apr 1837 to Edward Green in St George Middlesex. Father Thomas Haggis, mariner. Marriages and Banns states she is a minor. If she were born in 1821 and married in 1837 she would have been 16.

So I went looking for her birth. I'm never satisfied.

In the London England Births and baptisms 1813-1906 I have a birth for Anna Eliza Haggis 24 Apr 1818. Father Thomas Haggis, mother Eliza. The date of birth shows on the entry for the baptism on 11 May 1818 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Tower Hamlets.

If It is her birth (1818) this would make her 19 when she married.

There is also another child Eliza Haggis. Born to Thomas and Elizabeth Haggis. Baptism record shows date of birth 14 Apr 1882 and baptism 14 Jul 1882. St Anne Limehouse. Is this her sister.

Regarding the Hannah/Anna names. Hannah Elizabeth Green (Anna /Eliza Green) had a daughter Hannah Maria Green who became Anna Maria Green.

As I said, I need a fresh pair of eyes!!!

Regarding Hannahs marriage to Edward.
I think with her age being classed as a minor. Is because the age of adulthood then was 21.

Also I found a different date to the one you stated.

Name: Hannah Elizabeth Haggis
Spouse Name: Edward Green
Spouse Age: Full Age
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 28 Oct 1837
Parish: Saint George In The East
County: Middlesex
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Father Name: Thomas Haggis
Spouse Father Name: William Green

Having looked the baptisms of Ann Eliza;

Name: Anna Eliza Haggis
Record Type: Baptism
Date: 11 May 1818
Father's Name: Thomas Haggis
Mother's Name: Eliza Haggis
Parish: Saint Dunstan And All Saints
Borough: Tower Hamlets
County: Middlesex

Her fathers name & occupation are the same as in the marriage record. So most likely one & the same person.

As to Eliza being her sister.

Name: Eliza Haggis
Record Type: Baptism
Date: 14 Jul 1822
Father's Name: Thomas Haggis
Mother's Name: Elizabeth Haggis
Parish: Saint Anne, Limehouse
Borough: Tower Hamlets
County: Middlesex

I think this is probably so. Borough, parent names & fathers occupation all the same.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
And this appears to be Elizas' marriage

Name: Eliza Haggis
Spouse Name: George Porle..........surname could be Poole?
Spouse Age: Full Age
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 28 Nov 1842
Parish: All Saints, Poplar
County: Middlesex

Father Name: Thomas Heath Haggis..........Occupation Rope maker

Hi, Thank you for your looking. I am calmer now I can see it all set out GR research style. This is great, and the stuff I already knew has been presented in a different way.

You have also found the birth in 1818. What I am really pleased about is that you have NOT found another birth for a Hannah Elizabeth Haggis in 1821.

Steve your census information shows her as Hannah Elizabeth with her correct date of birth. I think my info came from another tree. I don't ever use "abt" with a date in my tree.

I am very interested in this little bit.
Father Name: Thomas Heath Haggis..........Occupation Rope maker

The occupations of rope maker and mariner appear in several of the generations of the families.

Hannah Maria Green married Thomas Carter who was also a rope maker. (Noooo don't go down that path, believe me I have that line researched well and truly). JC will have me strung up for duplicating info.

Bassenger name is interchangeable Bassinger/Bassenger.

Whoops I'm off task again.

You are very correct with the fact that the families appear to be living with each other. This practice continues through to the next generation but that's another story.

Thank you for that. I appreciate your help. I'm now off to correct my tree. It makes much more sense to have Hannah/Anna born in 1818. Goodness knows why these women keep changing their names.

so all sorted before I even saw the question!

steve did a great job there!

I could just add

AuntyS said:-

I cannot find the April record, just the one that Steve found:-

Name: Hannah Elizabeth Haggis
Spouse Name: Edward Green
Spouse Age: Full Age
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 28 Oct 1837
Parish: Saint George In The East
County: Middlesex
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Father Name: Thomas Haggis Mariner
Spouse Father Name: William Green Labourer

I looked at the image of the Register, and Hannah is down as Minor

Hannah:-
Minor,
Servant
Address:- 2 Sun Court

Edward
Of Full Age
Labourer
Address:- 2 Sun Court

Both Edward and Hannah signed "his/her mark"

Witnesses Matthew Pemberton ("his mark"), and Mary Maria Vincent (signed her own name)

Poor little thread was starting to decline anyway.

You are looking for raspberries and cream, or eating raspberries and cream???

Is this a craving we should find alarming or a natural progression to foods in season??

We don't have many raspberries. Our luxury is cherries. Fat, juice, sweet, dark red cherries. Only once a year for about three to four weeks.

Heaven!!
