Good luck to your other half Muffy, you have a long weekend ahead of you. However, well done to him for at least getting an interview and hopefully something will come of it for him. I will keep my fingers crossed for him that he is in work, either existing or new, when this is over.

We got a letter this morning TW saying that they had changed the way the points system was being scored ..in the previous one They had ignored days off sick and went for points if late when they calculated their points last time....but there were lots of complaints so they reset the parameters and changed it to days off sick instead.(union consulted)

The only day OH was late was the day my back went and he phoned them up two hours before he was due in to let them know he had to take the children to school and he'd be late so that worked against him .... on the old system anyhow.....gave him an extra three points which i felt terrible about !!!

This new system just counts days off sick......which he hasn't had any of....but then again......nor have any of the others on his shift. They all have the same performance scores and the only points he's gained are those for length of service.

We worked out that to keep his job.....4 of the other longer standing employees on the other shift affected would have to have taken at least 3 separate days off sick this year OR have gained 3 points for their performance for there to be half a chance....which is unlikely. I don't think they ordinarily use first in last out as when he faced this last year he'd only been there 4 mths so I know it's not always the first port of call in these situations xx

Keeping me fingers crossed for your OH Muffy. Longer length of service doesn't always mean that they're necessarily safer. My OH faced redundancy and he'd only been in the job a few weeks, we thought, last in first out, but they got rid of someone else who'd been there 6 years!!

The waiting must be driving you both round the bend .

If this door does close I'm sure another one will open .

Thinking of you xxx

Muffy, length of service should have nothing to do with it. It's no longer last in first out these days, that went out decades ago.

But they will go on performance...so hopefully, you'll have nothing to worry about there.

Muffyxx Report 12 Nov 2009 19:45

Well........the FINAL decision has been postponed til Tues next week.......HOWEVER the writing is on the wall tbh as it looks like the only thing separating them all is length of service and OH has been there only for about 14 months when the others have been there over 2 yrs.

He had his first interview today....for a really rubbish job.... which we'd take in a flash...because something is better than nothing...blinking nights again as well....hey ho... BUT she did say she wanted to put his name forward for one of the more qualified positions instead of the one he went for....so there is SOME hope.

Ta again for all the support......It's the waiting about that's doing my head in but I've now mentally written his current job off ........so I feel a bit calmer. Just trying not to be too optimistic about the one today...but I can't help feeling just a bit hopeful xx

Awww thanks everyone. Sorry for the thread. Was feeling a bit low last night but have woken up with my head firmly up this morning thankfully !!!

I've been buying pressies from store sales and ebay for the girls and putting them away since July and they each have about 12 so they won't go without.....my parents are fantastic and they will help with their main gifts if push comes to shove......plus Christmas is at theirs so we'll be fed well at least lol.

I just want to know one way or another .... once I know what we're faced with I'll deal with it from there !..It's 2 men out of 6 on the shift that are going so the odds aren't great...... I have a feeling it's going to be a very long week.

Thanks very much for all the kind words and support. It really helped me through my wobble :0)

We,ve been through this too Muffy and come out the other side still with fixed grins on our faces.

The best Christmas we ever had came at the end of a long year struggling to make ends meet, paying the gas, electric and phone bills off at £5 a week, worrying constantly every time the girls needed new shoes etc:(

That Christmas was the first one we had where there were precious few treats for any of us all year and the cheap and cheerful pressies were opened and really appreciated.

As one of our daughters said at the time, she was just 6 years old, it's people that matter, not things:))

Everything crossed for you for a good result next week.
